creepy bathrooms and hallways galore...
10-21-2023 we investigated Old Mercy Hospital in Oskaloosa, Iowa. (I'm just going to throw the address in here. you're welcome.) a nearby haunt for us middle of nowhere inhabitors, not quite 2 hours away. things started off a mite sketchy when I realized I had no address. oh well, I'll find it. but I did not. not on maps. did find a historical society page with pictures and the info that it was located on North Market next to old post office. ok. drove up and down this street. didn't see it. (big trees block this magnificient building, by the way.) there was a beautiful half moon. I remained mellow for a bit, then became frantic. finally I got onto the event website where I bought tickets and there was a link location. duh, deb. easy peasy lemon squeezy. by now we don't have enough time left to go eat supper before hunt. we end up at some random house. nope. then decide drive by new hospital, maybe it's there? nope. Kevin finally insists I go into Fareway and ask employees. ugh. I hate this. I go in. there are little kids working, who stare at me blankly and have no clues. I sigh and go back outside, ready to just admit defeat and drive back home. $80 down the shitter. and I literally bump into a woman who is more mature. and I just blurt out...do you live here? I'm trying to find a haunted hospital? it was literally about 3 blocks straight across from where we were standing, on the main street, but you couldn't get there from here without a lot of complicated directions. and I suck at directions. giving or recieving. I did my best. I remembered Hy-Vee and right at stop light, by big white building that is an Italian place or getting remodeled into an Italian place??? Kevin went with it and we drove past the very lit up location we'd passed multiple times. how ridiculous. I'd driven past this decorated spooky vibe place looking for an abandoned spooky vibe place. we cruised past. Kevin stopped and told me to get out and ask the pack of people dressed all in black out walking if this was the event. Sasquatch. more talking to total strangers. but this is my deal. and I want it to happen. I get out of truck, the mob approaches me. am I here for the hunt? did I find it ok? people are having trouble finding it. I can park right over there in that lot. go inside. they'll guide you upstairs through a party. check in. and I recognize Michelle from RIP, who Tracy and I met at Farrar and Beattie Mansion. I gush to her that I've been to events with her before. we go in, get led through party, and checked in. I'm sure this isn't the same woman we had at Mason House Inn with Haunted Rooms America, but she is a dead ringer. I became more and more sure it was her as the night wore on. she did at one break ask where I'd been, and she hadn't heard of Waverly Hills or Trans-Allegheny or Lake Shawnee. so couldn't have been her. she asked what equipment I used. I told her I just sit quietly and take pictures. but how do you know when to take pictures? huh? it's not like I'm capturing anything but a beautiful old building in these pictures. but she did the dad jokes routine. didn't see much of Michelle. there were 2 sensitives there, and she was hunkered down with them, reading the location. we did some group type stuff with a bunch of people, then snuck off on our own. I wandered around and took a jillion pics with my flashlight, and blundered into other peoples evp sessions, etc. there were only 2 rooms I didn't make it into, a couple was blocking the hallway doing a session, and I was done anyway. we did an evp/shadow box session with The Tech Guy. he knew Terry from PTF and had been to McInteer and Pythian and Beattie. he has a team. he had a ton of equipment. we finally wandered away from him. Kevin scared me good a couple of times. I'd be alone, then there he was. there were medical things lying around with patient names....x-rays. prescription bottles. a medical bill statement. those Hy-Vee Rx sheets that come with your Rx. there was also the Croc Guy. he had 'merica crocs, and that is epic. there was a young man there filming for TikTok or YouTube or something. he either left or just wandered off on his own, only saw him first morgue session. there were snackles and drinks. and a nice, modern bathroom. always a plus on a hunt.
Kevin saw some shadows down a hallway coming around the corner, but he said there were so many people there. and there was light coming in from outside through windows. so probably just people moving. there was a lot of music box hits, but I think a music box would work better in a location you weren't in? at least not where it could detect you. everytime the girl across from me moved in her doorway it went off. we were back in the doorways, I think it was our shadows from the light coming in through windows? her EMF detector was going to 3, though. and it felt like there was something behind me in my room. I kept turning around. when we started wandering, I discovered Kevin's doorway he stood in was to an old bathroom. ugh. who wants a bathroom ghost tapping you on the shoulder? I heard a voice but could've been other ghost hunters or coming up through (or coming down maybe, Idk how this shit works) a vent or an open door. The building was cool. the morgue was spooky. rooms leading into rooms leading into rooms. like a maze. doors on. doors open. doors locked. doors off hinges. random chairs and stools here and there. the bathrooms. wow. a green sink. beautiful old tile floors. some writing on wall in laundry room. some random clothes lying on floor. an old empty suitcase in basement. we were right on the main street and it was Saturday night. you could hear the occasional car go by, but it really was like stepping back into time. I don't like when everyone asks questions. when did you die? what year is it? are you male or female? did you have surgery here? and when someone has something that 'speaks' then it's oh my god, MY hip hurts! it just said HIP! oh my god. I'm dizzy. etc. or they get a name. did you have surgery here, so and so? how long was your recovery, so and so? did you like Dr. Lemon? I like to just wander and experience. listen to the building. take pictures. I wanted to go into a room right by main entrance, but there was light in the crack and I head voices. I wandered the floor FOREVER. when I got back to that room, still light in the crack and voices. I go to break room, looks like about everyone is there. grab a drink and chips, back to that door. still the light. no voices. finally I clear my throat. is anybody in here? I do a light rap on door. it falls open. no one. the light was coming in through window. was there ever anyone there? I'll count it. creepy bathrooms and hallways galore...
I left a Hulk toy in a closet. a purple Barrel of Monkeys monkey and a tiny flying rubber chicken in another closet. and a large gauze pad and some rolled gauze in a bathroom windowsill. I posted my pics, Tracy asked me if I'd left the Barbie doll. nope. she was already there.
we left about an hour before event ended. luckily there was a Casey's still open, so got salami and cheese and chips and cold drinks. I probably slept most of the way home. pretty sure.
