48 year old Kansas Woman found dead after apparent grizzly bear attack near Yellowstone national park Bear tracks found at scene investigators say, as Montana sees increase in grizzly sightings
Associated Press Sun 23 Jul 2023 23.02 EDT A woman has been found dead in Montana after coming into contact with a grizzly bear on a trail west of Yellowstone national park. The state’s fish, wildlife and parks department said the woman was found deceased on Saturday on a trail near West Yellowstone, a Montana town nestled in the Custer Gallatin national forest just west of Yellowstone national park. The woman was found “following an apparent bear encounter” based on what investigators determined were grizzly bear tracks at the scene, the department said in a statement on Sunday.
The woman was found “following an apparent bear encounter” based on what investigators determined were grizzly bear tracks at the scene, the department said in a statement on Sunday.
The investigation into the grizzly attack was ongoing, it said. The department did not confirm her cause of death. Rangers issued an emergency closure of the area where the woman was found, which is popular with hikers. The apparent attack comes amid a rise in Montana’s grizzly bear population and an increase in sightings. The department put out a news release last week warning visitors that staff had confirmed grizzly bear sightings throughout the state, “particularly in areas between the Northern Continental Divide and the Great Yellowstone ecosystems”. It urged people camping and visiting parks to carry bear spray, store their food while outside and tend to their garbage. Fatal encounter with grizzly bears are exceptionally rare. However the human population in bear strongholds in south-west Montana has escalated by up to a third over the past decade. This has led to grizzly bears getting into increasing conflicts with humans.
In July 2021, a grizzly bear attacked and killed a person at a western Montana campground, while in April of the same year, a backcountry guide was killed by a grizzly bear while fishing along the Yellowstone national park border.
and from another article.....According to the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, bears can be found throughout the state. In recent years, there has been a rise in the state's grizzly bear population and an increase in sightings. Last week, the department warned visitors about confirmed grizzly bear sightings, "particularly in areas between the Northern Continental Divide and the Great Yellowstone ecosystems."The department urged visitors to "Be Bear Aware" and to take precautions, such as carrying bear spray; storing food while outside and tending to garbage; traveling during daylight hours and in groups; watching for signs of bears; and making noise to alert bears of their presence. The incident follows other recent bear attacks in Arizona and Colorado.
Earlier this month, a 35-year-old sheep herder was attacked and severely injured in a black bear attack in San Juan National Forest in Colorado, according to the state's wildlife and parks department. The man had sustained bite wounds to his head; wounds to his hand and arm; and lacerations to his hip area and scratches on his back. In June, a 66-year-old man was attacked and killed by an adult male black bear near a cabin he was building south of Prescott, Arizona, the Arizona Game and Fish Department said. "Steven Jackson, 66, was sitting in a chair on his property when the bear attacked, apparently unprovoked," the department said in a news release. "Neighbors reportedly tried to scare the bear away and stop the attack but were unsuccessful." The bear was shot and killed by another neighbor at the scene while it was "in the process of consuming the man," the department said.
we bought the bear spray, and if you gotta go, I guess the old pioneer way is as good as any other.....right?

snapchatdeb is #pretty and sometimes really really creepy....

a disturbing dream.

I am running around the yard in my pjs. Katie and KJ are young. workmen trenching in yard. workmen working on electric in house. I have to get dressed and all I can find is this fabulous black slinky NYE looking top that I actually look AND feel good in. I'm cleaning out dresser drawers and thinking furiously. the bed is broke and I'm screwed because Kevin died. how can I use the trailers? I never have and Kevin died. how can I pay the bills? Kevin died. who do I tell that Kevin died? would it be easier to tell someone whose husband has also died? do I call his family? I probably should tell the kids? I was just sleepwalking through my own troubling dream, not taking any action of any kind whatsoever. there's a huge chalkboard at the end of the driveway and the workmen write a joke there every day. what am I going to sell? who am I going to talk to everyday? who else gives a flying fuck about what I think? never did actually see dead Kevin or know how he died or how I found out he died, just that he was dead and no one knew but me. my mind is a mysterious thing. guessing this is tied in with all the uncertainity of a family member passing and my true crime viewing and my general indecision about everything.....but I'm not really a Dr. I just play one on TV.

spent the better part of my day on a project. decided I was going to use the old hand pieced quilt top scraps to try out the memorial pattern I'd gotten. then put it in the quilt show this weekend.

I thought it was a dog. I was confused by nose placement and ears....it was a damned bear. and I couldn't get the nose right. or the legs or arms. did some cussing. bagged it all up and got on Etsy and ordered a weiner dog pattern. I did get the map hung up. Kevin went to store and came home with supper idea that turned out really good. our garage crew was back for a while today.

well. today I have a new concern. just throwing it out there.

7/24/2023. now I have another concern.
exhume
[ ig-zoom, -zyoom, eks-hyoom ]SHOW IPA
verb (used with object),ex·humed, ex·hum·ing.
to dig (something buried, especially a dead body) out of the earth; disinter.
to revive or restore after neglect or a period of forgetting; bring to light:
to exhume a literary reputation; to exhume old letters.
I started watching Exhumed Killer Revealed on Oxygen True Crime. Listen. NO MATTER WHAT I. do. not. want. to. be. exhumed. Idc how I die. I don't want to catch a killer. let 'em go. give 'em a second chance. gross. let me rot. no autopsy either. Idc how I die. I'm dead. drop me in a hole and get on with your life. just. let. me. rot. for the love of Sasquatch just let me be. you want answers? google. watch true crime documentaries. read some books. DO NOT EXHUME ME. DO. NOT. DIG. ME. UP. not even to catch Jack the Ripper. or to prove that Jesse James was my great great grandpa. Rest. In. Peace. mmkay?

I am getting so creeped out about people asking for my brothers ashes and not wanting other people to have his ashes, and people flat out saying "if you don't want them, I'll take them."

and the ashes sitting in a funeral home waiting for a check to arrive so I can pick them up. I am seriously reconsidering my original plan of cremation. if you're planted in the ground in a plain wood box less than 24 hours after death no one can fight over your damn remains. "I don't want so and so to have his ashes." "He's our family too, we have a family plot to put him in." ""when your mom dies if she didn't spread the ashes and you don't want them, we'll take them." what the fuck do you people think is in this cardboard box? gold fuckin' nuggets? I think most people are too damn lazy to get a shovel and dig up a grave. plus a real body is stinky and messy, a whole different ball game from ashes. still no service of any kind. funeral books or pamphlets. it's supposed to be Rest In Peace, folks. not fight over the burnt up remains. of course, I have no doubt I am not as popular as my brother is. probably no one wants my dead carcas anyway.
