Koren & Cody wills were married September 19th at Mt Crested Butte Colorado in a beautiful outdoor ceremony. Koren has left Walgreens & started a different career path where she hopes no elderly customers will wave coupons & sales ads in her face & tell her she’s too young to be a manager.

KJ is a senior. He has played basketball, been in school plays, National Honor Society, band….and was named to the Honorable Mention HDC Academic Team! He has been accepted into Northwest Missouri State University for Fall 2010. He’s thinking biology/pre-med.
Katie is in 5th grade & has been singing and dancing in talent shows & competitions…she entered her first 4-H photography exhibits….and is playing the trumpet in elementary band.

We adopted a miniature Daschund, Sasha Rose.

Kevin & Deb have the same old jobs. We went on a fabulous vacation to Colorado. Life is good.

conversation with Marie

May 29 2003 what I think I remember of Kevin's conversation with Marie Dailey Hass. They lived in Grandma Jessie's little house and walked everywhere. They walked to school, home for lunch, back to school, and home afterwords. Wesley was a basketball star. She thinks she remembers Eva playing basketball, too, the court was outside. Newtown school was built the same way, only the stairs were on the other side. She had a friend that she would walk to the mile crossing with, they'd milk a cow and carry the milk back to town. On Sundays, they'd walk to Lineville and back.
When she and Howard lived in the house next to the old Princeton Baptist Church, they'd have church on Weds, Sat, and Sunday, they'd park the street full both ways so they couldn't get out of the driveway, one time they had to go somewhere and did inch their way out, but creased a car (she didn't say if it was theirs or someone elses). The church paid her for the house by tithes. Every house she has lived in has been torn down, she says.
She said something about her Grammy Toot and quilts.
Purple iris were Jessie Shroyers favorite flower because they smelled the best.
Her mother never yelled at the kids, she didn't put up with nonsense and would take a switch from a tree to them. They listened to her. Someone (can't remember who) remarked how they always remembered Jessie smiling and happy and wondered how she could be that way with eight children. Howard's home life as a child was much different.

there is a bulletin board with graph of grave locations and info on persons buried, but the Toot one was hard to read. I think this was it:

Martin & Hannah share a stone, his information is on the right side of the stone, hers is on the left side, and the front of stone has picture and verse. I don't know their relationship right now.

from Revised Edition of the 1911 History of Mercer County p.157..."Martin Toots, a resident of Grundy County, hanged himself to the limb of a tree near Half Rock, Monday, August 25, 1889. He was twenty-five years of age and recently married."

kids got out of school early for Thanksgiving break, KJ had time to get a haircut after BB practice, Katie had dance class, she gave Mackenzie the Littlest Pet Shop figurines she'd found at Dollar General. Her solo costume came in & she is happy with it & it looks fantastic on her! Koren & Cody came over late, she brought all the food she made for Thanksgiving supper....hot rolls, pumpkin pies, pumpkin cranberry bread, & corn casserole. we watched the wedding dvd Cody's uncle made. it was awesome!

I slept in again....still in my NyQuil haze from yesterday, I guess. read for awhile, then went back to bed, Katie ended up being late to Jessie's birthday party. she eventually got there & had fun. She knocked off the pinatas ear!
don't know where I put KJ's acceptance letter from NWMSU, need the id# of it to do the housing app...wonderful. did some digging...found some other stuff, so scanned stuff to put on my various blogs, so not a total waste of time...

saturday morning in mercer

I slept in...Kevin went deer hunting. The sr. stand went well, I stayed in the kitchen, 3 other parents were working as well, & those kids know their jobs. I had fun watching KJ work his shift. Katie found friends to hang out with.

thursday

katie has all A's on her midterm grades!!!!
dance class is going so well that Stephanie says the competition classes will cut back to half an hour after Xmas!!!!
Corey wants to go see Twilight tomorrow nite, so will work for him in senior stand tomorrow.

yeah KJ!

he made the New A Honor Roll....3.67 GPA & above.
he has BB practice all week, plus the last 3 home jr hi bb games to work.
katie has 2 nites a dance class, GS meeting, & a birthday party.
kevin has work & deer season.
deb has work, the laundry, the dishes, & finding katie new winter boots...because Indian summer appears to be over!

the neighbors dog...

the neighbors dog is out on the front porch, jumping up and looking in the windows. Miss Cuddles is running around in the window, going nuts. Sasha is barking like mad. somewhat annoying. honestly....
so why do I have a picture of the neighbors dog? you ask. because it is always here. took this picture when we were doing a photo shoot with Katie & Jessie. the dog is very friendly.

it's been a long week....especially for KJ. he has had bb practice, senior class picture, found out he & Heather were named to the All Conference HDC Honorable Mention Academic Team, and worked at senior stand countless hours for the Mercer JHBB Tournament. he's not been feeling real well, either.
Kate had 2 nites of dance class, practiced her trumpet, did a lot of reading. She also helped Mrs Holt make the Basketball Play books that the HS Boys got at practice today. pretty cool!
Sasha sang along when Katie practiced her trumpet & had to pee about a million and a half times since I got home from work at 4:30.
Miss Cuddles is a bit hyper.
Kevin is at work.

I went back to work this week....vacation is over. KJ has been busy...BB practice officially started each nite after school, plus it's the Mercer Jr High BB Tournament, so he is working Senior Concession Stand every nite, too. the band & choir will perform at the Veterans Day program today, but my boss took the day off to go watch her daughter in the Newtown program, plus I just got back from vacation, so guess I will miss yet another thing in my kids lives.
Kate lost one of the 2 teeth that are supposed to be coming out, Stephanie changed her solo, removing the coffee grinder & replacing it with something else. Katie also got her pitch right on her trumpet in band! she got to help Kevin build fence a bit last nite, riding on the 4wheeler & eating Grandma Marie cookies.

Satuday & all is quiet...

the friends are gone, KJ picked up his last BB ad, & I finished reading The Indifferent Stars Above The Harrowing Saga Of A Donner Party Bride by Daniel James Brown. found a reference to William Cullen Bryant, his cousin Edward Bryant made it to California ahead of the Donner party & talked to survivors when they got to California & published a book What I Saw In California. So I get online to look up Edward Bryant, found letters of Peter Bryant....yeah! check it out on my family history blog...

Happy Birthday, Katie!

today is Katie's friends birthday party with two of her dearest friends, Mackenzie & Jessie. we've had a couple of photo shoots outside...she served them Chocolate Whipped Cream cake, Snickers Ice Cream Bars, & asst. Brach Chocolates....we will soon head to Bethany for supper at Toot-Toots & some skating at Roll-a-Roma, to Walmart for a new release dvd to watch tonite, then home for a sleepover!

thursday...

it's 11:56 a.m., I have swept, swiffered, dusted the livingroom, straightened shelves in entertainment center, done some laundry, took the dog out potty about 10 times, & got KJ's last 2 basketball program ad businesses picked up...thanks Tiki Hut& Snappys! will run them to school after lunch. got Randys last nite.
mailed out notices about Nov. Girl Scout Meeting. shipped another book sold on amazon.com. rec'd & wrapped Katie's first xmas gift...going to use all the gift bags I've saved from Xmas past...this will be a Thrifty Christmas.

Weds

kevin had followup chiropractor appt. today, goes back in a week. Miss Cuddles appears fine today. Katie is going to bed & getting up in the mornings. Yesterday I picked her up at school, she sold ads to Grammy's Grocery, Robinsons Service, & The Shear Shop for the Dance Studio, & sold some Girl Scout Cookies, to boot.
Koren called, she got that job. she'll have weekends & holidays off.
KJ has last academic meet of the season tonite, then HDC tournament on Sat.
The BB kids have to sell the ads for the BB programs, he tagteamed with Dakota & Corey & got some of them done last nite, he asked me to go to Randy's & pick that one up.
listed books on amazon.com yesterday, have sold 2! bought new tennies at Browns so my poor old feet won't ache so bad. the sun is shining. life is good!

my baby is eleven years old today....

(sigh). how is this even possible? I baked a giant birthday cookie that was too giant for the baking stone, so had a bit of a mess to clean up & some smoke to contend with, but she said it still tasted ok. She took her Starbursts to school for treats & said they were a hit. Emily can't come to her birthday party & all her other friends play basketball too....
she is happy with her Bratz dolls she wanted, dance class went well because she has been practicing...we studied for science, she took her shower, & now is setting up a game for all the Bratz & My Scenes to meet the new Bratz. and Sasha has to go potty.
life is good!

Sunday.....

slept in & laid around most of the day....took Sasha for a lap at the park, she also rode along to take Jessie home & then to Randy's to find something for Kate's bday treat for her class tomorrow....bought 21 packages of 75cent Starburst....19 students + Mrs Holt + 1 extra. much easier than baking cookies or some such shit. I did seriously consider using the brownie pan Koren gave me...but then I thought about the janitors cleaning up cake crumbs....
did a photo shoot of the girls & Katie edited some of them for me.
put the corkboards back up for my new improved messaging system.
Josh hung out with KJ for awhile.
Jessie & Katie buried Mittens, who was found dead on a day we were too busy to put her at rest, so she got bumped till today. They put her beneath another tree, our original burial tree is all full up.
the girls snacked on their Trick-or-Treat candy all day...my fave parts of the nite were the hot cocoa at the church sponsered spot & free supper at the gas station. Sasha went along & walked her little legs off, but I forgot to put her outfit on her...
