Kevin has sold some guns the last 2 days.
I still can't get the printer to work. today's remedy was to make sure everything was plugged in securely. guess it's time for a new printer.

don't think I'd reserved a hotel for the September concert, looking through emails and my booking apps.
did find this, however. and I will fly out of Des Moines if I don't get horribly confused and lost first....
DES MOINES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Home > Miscellaneous > Des Moines International Airport There are two ghost stories around this airport. Some offices are haunted by a flight attendant, usually in the fall season. The offices used to be the site of a restaurant called the Cloud Room, and the flight attendant wanders there as if looking for her flight. Also, laughing and clinking glasses are heard, and cold spots are felt around this site. And, in other lore, the head of a family who lost their southside plot of land to the airport still haunts the site. It is said that the airport lies over a small burial plot containing his family members (and perhaps himself). The apparition of a malicious-looking middle-aged farmer has been seen, and he rocks the area with footsteps, shadows, cold spots, and moans.
I'd forgotten about this concert and this hotel until I went to write Rips next groom down on calander....

today Zerelda stood behind the counter with me at the gas station and was an official customer greeter while her mommy & daddy got their drinks.
she was really quite helpful!
here's a couple of vacation deb photos.....black light and fun house mirrors are good to me, don't ya think?
wish I could figure out why the printer won't print (again). this gets so annoying. it works like a champ and then nothing. have tried all the usual trick fixes, haven't hit on the solution as of yet.

update. the dead cat was. not. Ramona. as her and Rip had a stroll about the yard today. Then he chased her little white kitten, and they parted ways.
more vacation. we saw oil derricks, wind turbines, wheat harvest, co-op elevators, irrigation rigs, big square bales, grassy mounds in Kansas (maybe Indian mounds?). drove through flat areas with few cows. trees in clusters. The Flint Hills. lots of campaign signs about abortion: the stilling a beating heart and the care for them both. I just don't get why this is such an issue again. so much wrong in the world, so many ways a government could try to help, and this is what they come up with? next you'll have to be a male landowner and able to sign your name in cursive to vote. we're going back in time. {I had the weirdest dream, where something happened in the world and technology stopped, and when the survivors survived, we had 1950s cars and no internet and no cable and no tv and no cells and no tablets...}
we saw NOW HIRING signs everywhere. We had trouble finding places to eat because of the weird hours. like 11-2, 5-8. no lunch or supper for travelers. because of this supposed labor shortage, I guess. We saw license plates from everywhere in Dodge City. In Dodge City we also saw the casino, statues, murals, medallions in the sidewalk, western street signs, a white buffalo, prairie dogs, a haunted hospital (from the trolley, no trespassing), a gun fight, a wax museum, a teachers museum-which was kinda cool since my grandpa Alfreds sister Nona was a one room school teacher on the prairie in South Dakota-a variety dinner show at The Longbranch Saloon, a gully washer, and a rainbow. pigeons everywhere. you could always hear them cooing in the Boothill Museum area. The House of Stone. Dodge City used to be the good side and bad side of the tracks town....with the Mexican workers on the bad side. We stayed at the aptly named Wyatt Earp Hotel. The area was kinda sketchy, but the room was nice. and cheap. and Kevin had his pistol. [a soap dish was American Inn or something. something else was Drury Inn or something. It has had several owners. you had to call a number to get someone to come to desk. and leave your key in the box.] we even saw the new Jurassic Park, after we figured out the theater was in the mall.
as always on a road trip, we grew a bit closer. we held hands. we talked to each other. I only read a few pages in my book, when we hit the hotel after the grandkids left, I was exhausted. we also noted that Nebraska and Kansas have some long long long interludes between gas stations. Better fuel up when you see one. Just do it.
you get to thinking about these Kansas pioneers building soddies and fighting the prairie grass trying to plant crops, dealing with Indians and burning buffalo chips. and the lack of shade. and the wind.
we discovered Billy Sims BBQ. I ate BBQ baked potatoes and a really really good Fried Green Tomato BLT.
I learned that Cora really really really wants LOL dolls. mystery ones. that Ian reads Harry Potter and watches Sonic The Hedgehog. That if Mommy and Daddy are out of sight, Millie will let me pick her up. And Violet just loves everybody. She has so many friends.
we saw 3 roadkill armidillos in Kansas. (Kevin spied 2, I spied 1.)
all our hotel rooms were freezing cold. finally went back out to car for my hoody the last night. I just couldn't take it anymore. and I wore that hoody all the way home, since we keep the car a/c delightfully cold, as well.
as always, I love being on vacation, buying a cold pepsi at a time, waiting in line for gas station bathrooms, seeing old houses and farmsteads and whatever else is along the way. it's a good life. but gas is expensive and maybe eventually you'd run out of things to look at? when I get home, everything here just seems a little bit ....more. the sunsets are prettier. the stars are brighter. it's nice to have ALL your wardrobe available, not just what you thought you'd want. and all our tv shows. and a dog to cuddle with.

we had a wonderful vacation.
it was based around Katie's wedding. We got to hang out with the kids at the B&B, the wedding stuff, and a hotel. And go to the hotel pool with them, and out to eat with them, and to the zoo with them. I had a whole list of things to do 'if we had time' which we didn't, but you never know.
Ian was our roomie, he had his own room at The Grey House Inn, with his own tv, Papa gave him the Netflix password and he watched Sonic the Hedgehog. He also had his own Harry Potter Cupboard. and he was reading Harry Potter. we had a secret door outside, he declared Room 2 the best room at the inn. we also had super secret nighttime s'mores and an accidental Great Ant Experiment. at our hotel, I slept with him since Papa fell asleep across our bed, and my snoring caused him to only get 10-60% of the sleep he needed. He toasted pretzels in the microwave, had his own hotel key, pushed the elevator buttons, made his own hotel continental breakfast of fruit cup with blueberry yogurt, mixed nuts, and golden and regular raisins, oj, and a croissant with maple syrup. He did an an ice run with me, and got him a Sprite and papa a Coke from the vending machine. He even pushed his sisters on the luggage cart. It was a quite an adventure. I got to dance with the kids at the wedding.
Kevin planned a trip to Dodge City, Kansas, which was a lot of fun. he voluntarily posed by statues and let me take his pic, which was fun. and we also stopped at The Oz Museum, but not the POW Museum or The Orphan Train Museum, cause those made me sad.
this summer, I'm trying to soak up moon energy.
to immerse myself in sunsets and sunrises (when I catch them, I do sleep a lot), to look for the Big Dipper. I'm trying to live in the moment, to see the beauty around me. I really am. When I remember to....
I just don't understand how working a day can knock me on my ass so bad.
maybe it's the after effects of vacation. or being a lazy part time middle aged woman. maybe I always came home and fell asleep instantly my entire life?
6.24.2022
our first full day home.
Kevin up and mowed till he got rained out. I slept in. we went to Princeton to Court House to question the new assessment letter (I was there in case Kevin got himself thrown out...) and then a copy of our tax receipt to license new trailer. picked up Rx, then Rip. Kevin finished mowing yard while I made lunch, then to farm to mow, visited with Dave & Melissa, and home where Kevin dismantled front porch. I don't know how John Wayne Gacy lived with all those dead bodies under his house, one dead cat under the porch was too much. Don't know if it was Ramona. it was a yellow cat. and haven't seen her since before vacation. may never see her again.
