Postmenopausal atrophic vaginitis, or vaginal atrophy, is the thinning of the walls of the vagina caused by decreased estrogen levels. This most commonly occurs after menopause.

up to 40 percent of postmenopausal women have symptoms of atrophic vaginitis. only 20 to 25 percent of symptomatic women seek medical attention from their doctor. Women who have never given birth vaginally are more prone to vaginal atrophy than women who delivered their babies vaginally.

A vaginal estrogen cream, such as Premarin or Estrace. These types of medications are inserted into the vagina with an applicator at bedtime. Your doctor may prescribe the cream daily for a couple of weeks, then step down to two or three times per week.

(I hate these things. it was my first in I bet 5 years. ) but I had an issue and I finally stuttered it out. the P.A. had a suggestion, pick up at drug store tomorrow to see if it works. if not, will go on to a specialist. I hate going to the dr. I don't like borrowing trouble or looking for something to be wrong. I don't want any more Rx. but, this was important. Kevin had asked me to....and I did. I am proud of myself. taking steps. 'nuff said. I want to enjoy our golden years to the fullest. (and it's not all in my head. it's real.)

ran into a friend at the drug store who is lucky she didn't die from shitty medical care. then got drinks and buy 1 get 1 50% off King Size Reeses at Casey's. now making supper. cleaned cooler, found suitcase and did some packing. getting ready for our big adventure! excited to share some ghost hunting with Katie!

today I hit a new low at work....I for just a second contemplated hanging myself in the women's bathroom....

but I'm sure the light fixture isn't attached to anything and the roof would fall in and I'd break the toilet again and then Terry & Laniesha would have to use the men's toilet and that is just a lot of fuss, so talked myself out of it....

took a hit yesterday, thought my knee was messed up. took another hit today...knocked it back into place.

and the chiropractor put all my other parts back, I bought a new water dish for Buckwheat, bought some meat at Hy-vee....I love using that little tiny cart!...and treated myself to a Sonic Reese's Blast and some circus peanuts. came home to Kevin mowing the yard. Makinlee's gift arrived today, so made a card and stuck it in truck to give to Terry to take to party since I'll be ghost hunting. going to make supper and maybe work on a project or do something on my get-ready-for-an-epic-road-trip list or read some....meanwhile, here are some cute pics that I feel honestly represent me as a pig farmer. #toocutetobeapigfarmer just keepin' it real.

Tuskegee Experiment: The Infamous Syphilis Study Known officially as the Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male, the study began at a time when there was no known treatment for the disease.

The Tuskegee experiment began at a time when there was no known treatment for syphilis. After being recruited by the promise of free medical care, 600 men originally were enrolled in the project. The participants were primarily sharecroppers, and many had never before visited a doctor. Doctors from the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS), which was running the study, informed the participants—399 men with latent syphilis and a control group of 201 others who were free of the disease—they were being treated for bad blood, a term commonly used in the area at the time to refer to a variety of ailments.

The men were monitored by health workers but only given placebos such as aspirin and mineral supplements, despite the fact penicillin became the recommended treatment for syphilis in 1947. PHS researchers convinced local physicians in Macon County not to treat the participants, and research was done at the Tuskegee Institute. (Now called Tuskegee University, the school was founded in 1881 with Booker T. Washington at its first teacher.) In order to track the disease’s full progression, researchers provided no effective care as the men died, went blind or insane or experienced other severe health problems due to their untreated syphilis.

In the mid-1960s, a PHS venereal disease investigator in San Francisco named Peter Buxton found out about the Tuskegee study and expressed his concerns to his superiors that it was unethical. In response, PHS officials formed a committee to review the study but ultimately opted to continue it, with the goal of tracking the participants until all had died, autopsies were performed and the project data could be analyzed.

story broke in 1972: By that time, 28 participants had perished from syphilis, 100 more had passed away from related complications, at least 40 spouses had been diagnosed with it and the disease had been passed to 19 children at birth.

In 1973, Congress held hearings on the Tuskegee experiments, and the following year the study’s surviving participants, along with the heirs of those who died, received a $10 million out-of-court settlement. Additionally, new guidelines were issued to protect human subjects in U.S. government-funded research projects. (In 1947, the Nuremberg Code was established in response to Nazi physicians forcibly performing gruesome experiments on prisoners in concentration camps during World War II. The document set forth basic ethical principles for medical research involving human subjects, such as the requirement that a person must give informed consent before participating in an experiment.)

The final study participant passed away in 2004.

That is when the USS Sachem became the place that Thomas Edison worked his magic. Edison used the ship as a place to conduct his experiments on creative ways to destroy the sub threats. Unfortunately, Edison found the military stifling and after a difficult relationship, lost his funding (and his fancy war yacht) in 1918. The war ended, and the Navy returned the ship to its civilian owner. Her next life was as a fishing vessel in New York, but that quiet, recreational incarnation didn’t last long, as the Sachem was once again called into duty. Purchased in the late 40s by a quickly-growing cruise line in New York City, the Sachem became a recreational vessel once again, starting her career as a cruise ship under the name Sightseer, and eventually ending it as its final identity, the Circle Line V, which is the faded name that can still be found on her hull today. The cruise line eventually petered out, and the ship that had seen so much became outdated and obsolete. After being purchased and fixed up by private owner Robert Miller in 1986, the Circle Line V enjoyed one last hurrah when a representative for Madonna spotted the ship and asked if it could be used as part of a backdrop in the singer’s “Papa Don’t Preach” video.
