The Joplin Public Library was closed when we had time to get to it, but did several drive-bys, soaking up the essence.

it was built on the site of the Conner Hotel, which collapsed in the 1970s. Librarians report activity.
didn't even try finding the spook light. First lecturer had done videos of it. you will be asked to leave if you park on that road. people live there now and they'll call the cops. I thought we'd just cruise down the road but Kevin had enough of ghost hunting, so nope. therefore did not get to Hoffman Mansion, or Devils Promenade Bridge. didn't find St John's Hospital with the directions I'd found "Sergeant Street at 22nd Street across street and block away from Freeman Hospital." just tiny houses on that corner. "no urban explorers." didn't make it to Galena, KS so no search for elusive Ma Stefflebecks Murder Bordello. no one online could agree on address, or if house was even still standing. Jasper County TB Sanitarium is no longer standing, but I could've stood in the parking lot where it used to be, but again, husband had enough ghost hunting. wasn't brave enough to go into Hogs & Hot Rods on old route 66. took pics and ate at Old Chicago, which seemed much safer. Ditto on Wilders, Bonnie & Clyde's favorite place to eat. went to Out Back. Kevin didn't show interest in Grand Falls, which just seemed like a pretty place to hang out, so maybe next time. He doesn't care much for my frentic I-have-to-pack-everything-possible-into-this-trip mentality. if I ever get back that way again, already have a list started. so there's that. made it to 14 things on my list. some I never got out of the car or even got a picture of, but I was in close proximity. win-win.
