BJ commented on this pic on facebook....."Look in the back ground, there are some faces in the Tree line."

saw another pig farm today while driving through Iowa backroads....

hmmmmm. I guess they didn't all spontaneously combust when I left?

Cute things to make out of old ceiling fan light cover.

today there was driving in the fog....deer...deer....deer....an eagle...ducks...some cool old barns, houses, and buildings, just a perfect perfect morning for the debster.

now going to get my shit together for our weekend excursion...find books with Elms Hotel and Hall of Waters in them...check my notes....gather my reservations and tickets...and find my long white old fashioned nightgown.

today was a beautiful foggy day.

so went for a drive and checked out some local haunted cemeteries...Tedrow and Terre Haute.-----------------Terre Haute Cemetery. "The spirit of a little boy can be seen playing on the swingset behind a cabin adjacent to cemetery. He may motion for you to follow him into cemetery, and disappears at his grave." there is an old bashed up trailer, a falling down shed, and the remnants of a swingset visible from the cemetery fence through the trees. (If you drive on down the road past cemetery, there is a nice modern red cabin, also.) I don't know how you would see a boy swinging through the brush, but we'll say it's possible. there was also a deer stand right on the other side of cemetery fence. a very peaceful vibe here. lots of old, toppled stones. feels like the middle of nowhere, but you can hear traffic on highway. no cemetery sign. I felt like I was being watched, and glancing over my shoulder thought I saw a dark shadow in fence line of cemetery, back in corner. did a double take, saw a black, burnt, dead tree. glanced over there later and didn't see either one. I thought about this all the way to Tedrow Cemetery (about half an hour drive) and all the way home. in fact, I almost detoured back there on way home, then changed my mind. maybe it's better I don't know?
Tedrow Cemetery (address listed as both Kellerton, IA, and Mount Ayr,IA) was a bit more challanging to get to. very scenic. Iowa has fantastic boulevard gravel roads, except when they're B maintenance roads that turn into clay roads, but it hasn't rained lately and I have decades of mudboggin' experience from being a pig farmer, so I wasn't scared. I found "The Tree With The Evil Face." (the tree only has 1 eye. I had to squint to see a face, but legends are legends.) Legend also states "Cemetery is always cold." (it was damp and only 50 degrees. I had goosebumps. and the shivers. it was cold.) "Strange hovering glowing lights." (broad daylight. none seen.) "ghostly moans in trees." (here it gets interesting. I heard crows. an owl. birds squawking like a horror movie. I could hear individual leaves falling to ground and I jumped each time I heard one.) This is the most creeped out I have ever been in any location. this rural cemetery was neither peaceful nor serene. my stomach hurt. I was nervous. even after I got back in the truck, my stomach hurt. lots of black stones. why? is it the stone? mold? never seen that many in one cemetery. sign stated no trespassing from dusk to dawn, video surveillance in effect. how. disturbing. would. this. place. be. at. night.

So do we pass the ghosts that haunt us later in our lives; they sit undramatically by the roadside like poor beggars, and we see them only from the corners of our eyes, if we see them at all. The idea that they have been waiting there for us rarely crosses our minds. Yet they do wait, and when we have passed, they gather up their bundles of memory and fall in behind, treading in our footsteps and catching up, little by little...
