New Years Eve 2008

a lot of good things have happened in the last year...koren graduated, got engaged, & got a 'real' job...kj got his drivers liscence...kate discovered dance class & recitals & costumes...kevin's (still!) broken ankle was correctly fixed...deb got the courage to apply for a job she didn't get...this was my first interview in years.
the kids all did well in school...katie joined 4-H...I found time to read...katie had portraits taken...we bought a kick ass car (following one of the not-so-good events of 2008-deb hit her first deer)...we got a dishwasher!!!...we had a lot of family time after kevin's ankle surgery...vacation...got a cool digital camera...katie started making dvds on the computer with movie clips & pics of her & her friends...after an extensive & expensive amount of dental work, deb can really eat again! kevin & deb had their 25th wedding anniversary...katie's scoliosis isn't getting any worse.

I am grateful for the time I have with my kids, for the chance to watch them grow & mature & screw up & exceed expectations. I love to hear their smart ass remarks & their peals of laughter. I love to hear them burst out in song. I sometimes even get a kick out of kate & kj's wrestling matches, tho I usually have to referee & ring the bell before she gets seriously hurt. I love to catch them wrapped up in a book. I still love to watch them sleeping. I am constantly amazed at how smart & wonderful & beautiful they are. what if kevin & I had never noticed each other on that bus trip? or I'd never got to have kids? I often wonder what childless people do with their lives...no pregnancy pueking, sick babies, diaper bags, school programs, homework, sleepovers, parties, dates, groundings, birthday parties, drivers liscence tests, proms, graduations, college applications & tours, weddings, grandchildren...
I love my kids & wouldn't trade them for the world. not even a life of jet setting & extreme skinny...in an alternate universe, I would be thin, athletic, & a good singer!

deb finished Blood And Thunder

An Epic Tale of the American West & has started Stephen King's Just After Sunset, a collection of short stories. The Gingerbread Girl is kind of like reading Saw instead of watching it.

remember the other day when I was whining about finding my ancestors in history books? Well, listen to THIS! He isn't our ancestor that I know of, but he is related to somebody, & this is how he will be remembered by anyone who read Blood And Thunder...Kit Carson was in the army, he had an outfit that was responsible for rounding up Indians to go to reservations, & he had some discipline problems. they listed various infractions, but only one guy had a name:

Lt. David McAllister was caught in bed with an enlisted man while he was Officer of the Day @ Fort Canby. Wow. How would you like to find that? granted, there weren't many white women in a post that far out west, probably just wives, maybe some daughters, but there were Indian & Mexican women. My mind really wrapped around that one...maybe they were just taking a nap or wrestling or something. who knows. I'll believe anything once or twice or maybe even three times.

It all ended rather dismally, Kit had an aneurysm & died about a month after his wife of 25 years, who had just had their 6th baby. The Indians that he had starved & burnt out to get them to the reservation were soon moved by Gen. William Sherman to a reservation on their own land, since they were starving to death & just wanted to go back home. so, he was away from his family & basically killed himself in a job that ended up really not amounting to much. hmmm, how would that feel? I realize you can't honestly compare driving about 8 miles to a job you hate to riding a mule all over the west battling pissed off Indians, but times have changed. And I do have those damnable deer to contend with...

koren has booked a wedding location

here's the link: http://www.gunnisoncrestedbutte.com/weddingsmountain-wedding-garden

she thinks dark purple will be her color. she is also thinking Katie needs a special dress, altho it's just koren & cody in the ceremony. she spent yesterday making phone calls & sending emails...photographer, florist, hotels...
this is really going to happen, people! I already know what next years xmas card photo is! (evil laughter).

the new date is Sept. 19th, which is princeton means calamity jane day, which just makes it even cooler, as I am a fan! will I be a good evil mother-in-law? (I have been practicing for years...)

a strange dream

I have had many many strange dreams over the years, have even bought several dream books to explain dream symbols & themes & scared myself silly. (according to these books, I am pretty much nutty boo.) this one probably had to do with me going back to my beloved job...
but there was shit bubbling up out of the ground, PSF had pumped too much. It was everywhere. It was eating the bottoms of peoples pants, the soles of their shoes. It was like molten lava. Of course, my fear in my dream was it would eat the building we were cowering in. just wait until Hollywood gets a hold of this idea...it'll blow William Shatners spider movie & The Blob right out of the water!

the new years eve party

kate & I did the party shopping trip tonite...2009 glasses & beads, party hats, blowers, noise makers, blow outs, a banner, pizza rolls, popcorn, doritos & donuts.
we made the trip in pretty good time, I hustled home from work, mailed books I'd sold on amazon.com, fed the dogs & cats, grabbed katie, & off we went to the accompaniment of a Barbie cd in our pontiac bonneville, just 2 wild & crazy girls on a road trip.

The Nativity Story

finally watched it today. It was very good. Is Mary the same girl from A New World? The movies & books all blur together.
have my alarm set to go back to work tomorrow. crap. and I have risers, too. whoopee.
katie is still amusing herself with her bouncy ball games, playing Pet Society on Facebook, & finished tying together her skull blanket. she is also planning a kick ass New Years Eve party. As of last week, the depop barns got NYD off. Told her to let me check the email in the morning at work & make sure that hadn't changed, since Kevin is working extra nites this week for holiday pay & won't appreciate a bunch of wild partyers that he's in charge of all day. last year it was Danielle & Kayla, this year she is inviting Mackenzie & Moriah.
all is melting (again).
planning on (weather allowing) going after groceries & her party stuff tomorrow nite. probably should've tonite. kj's pizzas, spaghettios, & shells & cheese are all gone. he is living on pop tarts & peanut butter. kate's faring a little better, since she isn't nearly as picky a eater as he is. but I started watching the movie, then josh & corey were here for awhile...& I do tend to procrastinate. Today was busy with sweeping, mopping, swiffering, reading, & my afternoon nap. I couldn't possibly have fit a Wal-Mart run in!

the final day....sigh

tomorrow I go back to the PSF UNIVERSE...no more sleeping in, spending my days how I damn well want to, or feelings of happy contentment (until my next day off.)
kevin called last nite, they encountered water over the road on the way to work & had to take a detour, cutting them pretty close on time. (he was still there 10 minutes before he clocked in. too close for him.) he said it was raining & snowing. I look out the window this a.m. after I finally woke up, the ground is white here again, too.
kate cleaned her room yesterday. she is a furniture mover like her grandma janet & big sister koren. I got all the sheets changed yesterday & will sweep & mop again today when I get around to it. have beans in the crockpot for lunch. amazon.com is making a deposit in my checking account for the flurry of books I've sold in the last 2 weeks.
still haven't finished my Kit Carson book, tho I've spent many lazy hours laying around reading it. He started out running away when he was indentured (or learning the trade or whatever) & became a mountain man & army scout/guide, then he was a rancher, & now he's fighting in the Civil War! He was married to an Indian girl who died leaving him with 2 small girls, he took the older one back home to his family so she could go to school, the toddler he left at home fell into a vat of something boiling & didnt' make it. He later married a Mexican girl & had 4 children with her. he made several mule rides from New Mexico & California to Washington D.C. with important messages from 'the front' before the pony express & railroad. Can you imagine? There was a lot of desert he had to ride thru, mountains, hostile indians, hostile Mexicans, mountain lions, buffalo herds, etc. Not to be bitter, but if only we had ancestors this well documented...I have found a lot on William Cullen Bryant, but he is a very distant distant distant relation...I think he was the uncle or great uncle of Mary Alice Bryant Higdon McMillion ( probably don't have her last name quite right, I'm getting fuzzy on details since I haven't worked on the genealogy for awhile!) who is I think our great great grandmother. I think.
of course found quite a bit on some other ancestors who luckily were recorded in various county & personal histories. what am I bitching about? at least ALL our ancestors weren't buried in unmarked graves along the Oregon Trail, but I'd still like to go back in time long enough for some answers....who was the father of Cindy Osborns' oldest 2 children? Where did Willie Axsom go when he disappeared? Why did Alexander Axsom come to Cainsville in a covered wagon in the 1880s? What happened to Annie Robinson Bryant after her husband died? Where DID the Axsom's come from? Where there really Indian great great grandma's on both sides of the family? did Ora Axsom (think I have the right name?) shoot himself in that bar or did someone else do it? and this isn't even our family, but WHO did kill our great grandparents' Maxwell next door neighbor Amanda Shirley? I never did find it in the papers, need to get back on that again. How frightened were the Maxwells? Your next door neighbor is found dead, no one knows exactly who or how...you live in the middle of nowhere, no phones to call for help...and how bad did that scar the little daughter who was home when it happened? did she know who did it? and why didn't I break into the house the day we took pictures to check it out or break my leg falling thru a rotten floor before they tore it down? I've always wanted to write a book, & that would be a good one! It would of course be better if you knew all the details, but I guess you could go fiction & make up what you didn't know. would great aunt minerva watch me driving back & forth to do research & think I was casing her joint? I'd like to know the measurements from the highway to where the house was, how far, how long to walk, does the other end of the road come out somewhere, did it ever...find pictures of the old house. will I ever get off the computer & get dressed? stay tuned...

the snow melted....

it rained & thundered...& now it is freezing again.
I got up to go to the post office & have been working on band carnival ideas & prizes...I came up with Under The Big Top for a theme, just have to fly it past the others. thinking I'll even start on my postcards to merchants asking for raffle donations. need to set a date for the next girl scout meeting, too.
also have changing sheets on my agenda for today. I've had enough days off that I feel like a well rested person again...

slept in, took a leisurely shower, then got ready to go to town. liscenced the car, went to the library, Dollar General, post office, & grocery store, then took a nap while watching my The Critic dvd set I got 4 Xmas, then put away all the Xmas stuff & the house is back to normal. well, as normal as we Dailey's ever get...
josh & corey are over to watch wrestling. kate found a bunch of her bouncy balls & a container to put them in. kj must've been bored, he swept his room, even under his chair & bed. which is where most of kate's bouncy ball collection probably was. ms. cuddles has remained hidden most of the day. kevin went back to work. he has a horrible cold. mine is almost gone.
the snow has all melted. there was a terrific fog. now all is soggy & spongy & soppy.
have to package the books I sold on amazon.com today. need to order the Budgie & Sissie's Adventures book written by a mercer county woman about her childhood.

funny stories about xmas 2008

katie this year again told me she didn't really want anything, she circled a few things in the thousands of catalogs we get & made a few vague round about suggestions, so when I read the school newspaper right before xmas & found out she wanted an I-pod, I was floored. I had also spent my xmas budget. I wanted to get a Wii & a new tv for the family room &some games as a family gift, but I wrecked the car & thought better of it. she also fell in love with a mike setup she could plug her MP3 into at walmart. we opened presents xmas eve, kate politely said thank yous & I found a note in her santa stocking that nite...informing me that for future reference she had made a wish list on walmart.com while I was at work, so I could look on there to see what she wanted. 'nuff said.

when kevin, kate, & I went to sunnyview for the xmas tea, we got to grandma's room & she was asleep. we had a whispered conference in the hallway outside her door, what to do? it seemed a bit rude to wake her up, if anyone has earned an afternoon nap,it is Grandma Grace. I pretty much refused to wake her up. katie quietly said 'grandma' at the foot of the bed a few times. kevin wondered aloud if I had the right day & the right time. he suggested several times asking at the nursing station. I finally took the hint & started that way, when here comes my mom marching down the hallway. we told her grandma was asleep, mom went right in & rousted her out of bed, telling her she had company & a christmas party to get to!

kate wrote the santa note & made the santa snack this year. I had a gingerbread kit for her to make, she opted for a Samuel Adams out of the fridge & a the cookies that came in the coke mugs she'd gotten kevin for xmas. her dad played santa this year.

koren loves homemade mashed potatoes. I make it a point to make them for her. when we were at hyvee tues. kevin pointedly asked me if I needed milk or potatoes. I was quite confident we didn't need them. xmas morning when I went to make the traditional xmas french toast (it actually used to be traditional xmas chocolate chip waffles, but I didn't have stuff for that, either...)I realized that yeah, I had milk, but it was past expired. merry christmas to the outside cats. Kevin told me no big deal, tho we live in a rural area that shuts down for any holiday, Randy's in Lineville was open from 4-6. you'd think I'd check to be sure my potatoes were good at this time. nope. koren & cody arrive, we visit, kevin goes to get the milk. I get the potatoes out, there are several rotten ones. not good enough for my baby on christmas. so I call his cell phone. then I hear it ringing. he didn't take it. oh, well, I was alive before there were cell phones, so I find the phonebook, look up the # & call the store. he has just left. I did have a big new box of instant potatoes, which my brother prefers. And koren was still stuffed from eating at her future mom-in-law Norma's house.

I might of already told this one, but here goes. The Christmas 4-H party. Cancelled twice for weather. we decided to go ahead & cut it short if the anticipated coming storm arrived. we hurried home from trenton, I gathered all the stuff I thought I needed: camera, food for the party, the cool 4-H book Lisa had made to show the other moms (THEY LOVED IT & WANT TO MAKE ONE FOR EACH KID!!!), & of course, Nicole's present for the gift exchange. We get there & start unloading the car. I panic. No gift. I was sure I'd picked it up. I frantically search the front seat & back seat. I look up into the dark night sky. Shit. So, I finally go into the house, wait a few minutes, & quietly tell Kevin I forgot the gift somehow, would he run home & get it. He gives me the look, & after bullshitting with the other fathers for awhile, takes off. HE is backing out of the driveway, here comes Katie holding the gift. I call his cellphone, he won't answer. A grandma goes out on the front porch waving her arms, a mom goes out the garage waving her arms. He keeps on going. So I sigh & call kj & tell him to give Kevin the message. Kevin did come back & didnt' say a whole lot. he is a good guy. a good long suffering guy.

I made supper xmas eve, kevin had gotten sirloin steaks. there were 4, only kevin, kae, & I indulge in steak, so there was one left on the stove. usually I cover the pan, but it was hot, I figured the cat has never been on the stove in all these years, it's safe. I go in the kitchen to put my plate away & she is hunkered down on the floor over her still hot stolen steak. I figure more power to her. kate moved it to her food dish. merry christmas miss cuddles.

we went tuesday on our way thru town to deliver the girl scout party canned foods to the food pantry. they were closed for lunch, but it was time for them to reopen. I'm trying the knob & looking in the door, then turn to go back to the car. I hear someone yelling "WAIT!!!", she is running as best she can down the slippery sidewalk to open the door for me. poor woman doesn't make enough $.

we wish you a merry christmas & a happy new year!

family dinner

Bernard &Janet Axsom, John Axsom, Koren Dailey & Cody Wills were our Christmas supper guests. We had ham, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, hot rolls, stuffing, cranberry sauce, corn, & pumpkin pie. Koren brought peanut butter balls & baklava.
We had animated conversations & a game of the new Clue.

merry christmas

I didn't do the best ever shopping job this year, no tears of genuine joy, no gasps of uncontrollable excitement. I know I didn't get into it as much as I usually do. I couldn't make the traditional xmas brunch, milk expired 3 days ago. good thing Randy's is open 4-6 so I can make Koren's homemade mashed potatoes. so, kevin ? I are having Manwich. the kids are having hamburgers since they don't care for Manwich. I slept in, cleaned house in my jammies, & finally got dressed at a ridiculously late hour. I have my promised 4 days off work. the Avalanche is home with a new fuel pump. It's not snowing, freezing rain, sleeting, or drifting. Koren & Cody are at Mill Grove, they'll be here for supper. Mom & Dad are coming, too, maybe even John. Life is good.
We did make it to Grandma's Christmas Tea. Delivered the food pantry donations from Girl Scouts. Mailed the books I'd sold on amazon.com. even hit The Farmer's Wife Merchantile for christmas scrapbook pages. The 4-H Christmas party went on as scheduled (for the 3rd time.)

here I am, wasting the day....

I got up & took NyQuil & went back to bed...slept till 10:30! which is just sinful. btw---there was no school, no party, no bleary eyed DayQuil deb helping excited youngsters glue dot & string beads. Hell, I'm still in my jammies. I am a case. But I do fully intend on getting up, mailing the books I sold on amazon.com, dropping off canned goods from GS xmas party to food pantry, & making the Sunnyview Christmas Tea. All in my fave about to fall apart jeans & brand spanking new stylin' Mercer Cardinals hoody. You'll see the 4 Mercer Dailey's tooling around in them. they would make a cool family pic. that probably won't happen, tho....but we DO look good!

no school

icy roads. according to some facebook posts, no school tomorrow, thus no holiday party. katie is bummed. but if there is no school (will listen to dreary country music to verify school closing....sigh) will find something to do. I can't waste a day off work, afterall...
kevin took me to work & picked me up, plus got up during the day to help Doug get his truck running & out of our yard. kevin is tired. in other news, our truck is still sitting in Lineville awaiting the tow truck....

and the truck wouldn't start.

kevin has the patience of a saint...he spent an incredible amount of time cleaning off the car so we could get to lineville to get the truck, when we got there, it wouldn't start, so went after more heet. no go. he spent a lot of time coaxing the ice ridden hood up. and then the ice ridden trunk. then jumped the truck. then very patiently called our mechanic to tow it in & made arrangements with his dad to borrow one of his 4wd. all without any cussing that I could hear from the warmth of the car. he is really an amazing man.
listed some books on amazon.com last nite after a long vacation, have sold 2 so far.
the history books I read have good resale value & sell really well.
my to read pile is almost manageable now. right now I'm reading BLOOD AND THUNDER AN EPIC OF THE AMERICAN WEST about Kit Carson (I didn't know he was from Missouri!) & the effect he had on settling the west. It's a little dry, lots of detail, but very interesting. I don't read as much as I used to. I've been taking lots of cat naps lately.

a wicked wind is blowing....

it's very cold outside and we are freezing our butts off. the sleepover guest are gone, all seemed to go well. "it was so fun. everyone had a great time. can we do this again next week? it would rock. please! we have so much fun together. i just love sleepovers. we had a dance off with our own dance, karokoe, and much more fun stuff. i love having mackenzie and moriah as friends. we came up with nicknames. moriah was MO, mackenzie was ZE, i was TE. our band is MOZETE. (the pronounciation key is MO-Z-T.) since you have next weekend off, we could do this again. we had so much funand laughs and memories we'll never forget. oh my gosh, PLEASE let us do it again next week. i know it's the weekend after Christmas, but it was so much fun. i just LOVE sleepovers, don't you?we danced to this song by Ciara M.G. we wrote on our arms in pen ink and wrote our nickname. i will put the video on youtube. if you wanna see it my profile is cooleyo118. but really mom, LET'S DO IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" said katie.
kevin had some mishaps getting home from work this am. the truck died outside lineville. he called his dad, he towed them off the road & brought them here, where doug's truck wouldn't start, so lije then gave him a ride home...it is freakishly cold. haven't ventured outside yet, but will have to 'do the chores'...which sounds like a big deal but is just feeding 2 dogs & a herd of cats. oh yeah, my dryer is in the garage, which is practically outside. it's a hard luck life! I don't know how those Amish women do it. ok, now I'm being ridiculous...

Katie planned a sleepover for Mackenzie & Moriah, she re-decorated her door...good bye High School Musical, hello John Cena. She hung up black Christmas balls all over her room. she planned games & activities. haven't heard much out of them so far.....all must be going well. she puts so much into organization & doesn't always seem to have enough patience left for the actual event...wonder who she gets that from?

the ice storm cometh

kevin had a fun drive home from work after he got the ice cleaned off the truck~then he drove me to work, where I got to walk risers in the dark & ice since the manager was stranded between 2 hills waiting for her husband to pick her up & take her to work in his 4wd. kevin put his ice walky things on my boots, they really work. no broken hip for this old lady!
the kids got out of school early yesterday in anticipation of the coming weather, & of course didn't go to school today. kevin went to princeton to the bank & picked me up from work, then he went back to work.
josh & corey walked over & played the new Clue game with kj & katie while they watched wrestling. I swept & mopped floors after my nap. kj is in the kitchen making a homemade pizza for him & company. I am looking forward to an uneventful weekend off after working the infamous 12-in-a-row.
I might have to go 'help out at Peach' next week...maybe. No one has officially told me this. am I actually helpful enough to go somewhere else & help people? my co-workers probably have some opinions on that one....
I took tuesday off to volunteer at the school craft room (assuming there is school....) for the winter festival, then mom told me that sunnyview has a christmas tea that afternoon, so will try to make that, weather permitting. the de-pop barns are supposed to get the 25th-28th off. They are going to de-pop 2 more barns at a different site, so our re-pop has been postponed indefinitely, we will probably all get split up & sent elsewhere for the duration, but they promise we will all eventually reunite at our home barn. it's amazing, co-workers who endlessly annoy can seem pretty endearing when push comes to shove....I don't like change. it usually sucks big ones.

all area schools let out early in anticipation of the big ice storm that the weather guys say is headed our way. 4-H has been postponed until Sunday nite. last nite we did a grocery run to be prepared.
today Kevin changed the sheets on our bed today, & that is a true act of love. I hate changing sheets!KJ brought home the Cardinal sweatshirts I ordered for the 4 of us from Athletic Boosters. another true act of love. what a wonderful boy.
life is good.

she hasn't missed one yet...

Grandma Janet made the school Xmas program Monday nite, braving bitter cold for quality musical entertainment...there was vocal music, recorders, xylophones, guitars, rap, & the bands, oh my! Kevin had to work, but I was there armed with a camera & my Dance Mom Xmas shirt.
I asked Kate to please wear the Candies dress she begged for last year at least once before she outgrew it. She did, even tho she is 'not a dress kind of girl.' She looked beautiful. While I was on a roll, I requested that KJ wear the sweater I had gotten him on clearance years ago that he has finally grown into. He thought it was gay, but he did. I got the traditional pictures of my oh-so-happy children by the Xmas tree before we left for the concert. you just can't buy memories like that...but I'm sure a therapist will make money off them in years to come.

it is freakin' cold!

51 degrees when I left for work 6:40a.m.
17 degrees when I came home 4:28p.m.

Saturday Do's & Don'ts

Gary DID come pick up the Monte Carlo, so there is an empty spot in the yard.
Kevin DIDN'T go to the funeral. He just couldn't do it.
KJ DID go out with friends.
deb DIDN't clean house.
Katie DID plan our next three million Girl Scout meetings.

you just never know...

I got home yesterday from another day of powerwashing, hurrying around to feed the dogs & do final Girl Scout meeting prep, & Kevin was talking, but I wasn't really paying attention, then he left 4 work & the girls started arriving, the meeting went fast, then KJ had friends over, & Katie still had a friend over, I ordered pizza & picked it up, start picking up the aftermath of the meeting, & Kevin calls on his break. What he had been trying to tell me was when he went back to work Thursday nite, he found out one of his work friends had been killed in an accident. A bunch of people from work were going to the funeral today. Kevin wasn't sure if he'd go.
I have to work this weekend, a guy from work says he'll come pick up the Monte Carlo that he already paid for, so have the title on the door for the kids to give him if he shows up, KJ thinks he has plans sometime today with a friend...life would be easier if I didn't have to work weekends. Let's be honest, if I didn't have to work at all.

oh, the weather outside is frightful...

the roads didn't seem that bad to me yesterday, but the running board on the truck & everywhere I tried to walk was icy. All the area schools had 2 hour delays, lots of them turned into closings. Our kids went to school, but they cancelled the ball game. KJ is learning all about winter driving...how his car doors likes to freeze shut, how the defroster (when it chooses to work) is a bit slow, how his car really doesn't like to climb hills when it's frosty or icy...he is probably thankful he lives so close to school!
Kevin called Koren since he was watching tv & seeing all the closings down there, she said there was some snow.
The cat becomes ever more reclusive, some days the only way you know she's here is the food dish level & the litter box. I wish I could hide as good as she does! Last nite I laid on the old couch in the 'family room' by the xmas tree...the lights didn't help my headache, the laying around didn't help my back ache...I'm a pig farmer without pigs, just tons of pig shit to power wash down big drains in the pits. I definitely feel my new age + several years.

dancing at Pearls I & Pearls II

there were a caravan of vehicles transporting Christmas entertainment in the form of tap dancing to elderly Mercer Co. residents. signed Katie up for clogging classes in January & ordered her clogging shoes. I thought clogging would be like wooden shoes...it is like super fast tap dancing, there are like tamborines on the bottoms of the shoes...much more noise. usually faster music.
Kevin & Katie went to the dr. today, she thought all the sores & blisters in Katie's mouth were something viral, if they don't go away in a few days, will take her to dentist. Kevin had bloodwork done, he hasn't felt well for several weeks.
need to make my salad. I'll probably top it off with the leftover (?there might be 1or 2 left after the kids eat)....

the weekend goes on & on....

Katie danced at Christmas in the Park in Bethany last nite. It was cold & her poor feet were frozen. I found a spot where I could watch from behind...the xmas lites didn't really illuminate the girls, it was kind of a disappointing deal. THEN I couldn't find her afterward, there were crying children everywhere, Kevin did find her, then they found me, then we did an epic shopping adventure @ Wal-Mart.
we were up and at them this morning to head to Oak Grove to wedding dress shop with Koren. KJ was still not feeling good, so opted out of today's family fun adventure. We ate at Texas Road House, then shopped at David's Bridal, watching Koren try on beautiful dress after beautiful dress, she selected the one she chose the other day. We're buying the veil for her. She is a beautiful bride-to-be. We shopped at Independence Center Mall, then headed back north.
we ate at Toot-Toots on the way home, then we played the new Clue game. That about ended in bloodshed. The family togetherness weekend is officially over. Could we survive another one?

Christmas Recital

it's Dailey Family Fun Weekend, we started off by getting up to attend Katie's dance recital. She did great. I want her to take up clogging and she wants to too, but she won't admit it. K.J. went but was very tired from the school's lock in he went to. He also thinks he's sick. Soon, we will go see Katie's dance again at a park in Behtany. Tommorrow, we will see Koren and go wedding dress shopping. We are going a year in advance. She is bringing a friend with her. So far, she has what she wants narrowed down and we just have to see her with them on. My birthday is Monday, so we will go out to eat. On Monday, Katie has two more dance recitals at Pearls 1 and 2. A very busy weekend. Our family fun didn't start out great because Katie is not a morning person and had to wake up early. plus KJ made a rather rude comment to her that had Katie & mom both furious. Katie got flowers at the recital and so did every other girl but one. It was Katie. Not my Katie, a blonde little girl. Her parents didn't order her any. Everyone felt so bad. The girls were video taped. i bought a dvd and got one for free since I was a parent helper...I ran the cd player. There was playing & pausing, watching for cues, fading music out...quite a bit of stress for a dance mom, but a great seat to watch the recital. The dance teacher gave each kid a gift bag with a Dance Studio 2008 snowman ornament.
Grandma Janet made it. She is Katie's greatest fan. We want to start a clogging group for all of us, but Katie wouldn't be caught dead clogging with her grandma and mom.

it's colder than a witches patootie (don't ask me, my dad always said it. He also said 'colder than a mother-in-law's heart' but since I will soon be a mom-in-law, I don't care for that one.)
Kate had her homework done when I got home. I mailed back my too big Levi's from JCPenney's, took Katie to dance class, turned in the cookie order stuff to the cookie chair in Princeton,& figured out the bills. As usual I figured out that we seem to have too many...
& KJ went to the first home varsity BB game, where he entertained the masses in pep band. I'm a little bummed that I missed it. I have a collection of video clips of the pep band thru the years. then he very nicely gave his friend Corey a ride home.
I have added to my shirt collection this year, I have a Mom's Mercer Girl Scout Shirt, a Mom's Xmas dance recital shirt, & a Mom's pep band shirt.

Katie lost a tooth Dec. 2nd. she has several more loose ones.
I figure as long as I record this somewhere, I'm a good mom. The baby book is hopeless. It's like the Rugrats episode when Didi is trying to catch up baby Dill's baby book. Quite sad, really.

kate has dance rehearsal tomorrow nite, recital sat. a.m., dances at Bethany park sat. p.m., & at Pearl's I & II Mon. p.m. then dance will be done until January. Plus Katie & I were invited to go to David's Bridal Sunday to watch Koren try on wedding dresses. we're a busy bunch. Then I work 12-in-a-row.

today we bought a car

@ Uptown Motors in Bethany~How many cars have we bought over the years?
1. A car from Kevin's grandma for $100 when his truck wouldn't run & we couldn't
afford to fix it anymore.
2. The brand new 1989 Chevy Cavalier 5 speed from Lentz Chevrolet in Indianola.
insurance totalled it out, Koren drove it till it died & now it rests in my
father-n-law's pasture.
3. A recovered stolen Ford pickup truck...sold it.
4. a 1980 Blazer...sold it.
5. 1996 Lumina...still driving it.
6. 1997 Monte Carlo...deb totalled it.
7. 2002 Chevy Avalanche...still paying for it.
8. 2005 Pontiac Bonneville...haven't even started paying for it!

was going to leave work early to renew my drivers licence, but the insurance check came today & our banker won't be back to work until tomorrow, so will just do it tomorrow & leave early once. just need 3 more girl scout cookie sheets & I can get the order ready...

xmas cards

about have them filled out, have managed to lose an address...my address book from high school is falling apart, have put some addresses on the computer. need to get them all in one location.

Kevin took me to Bethany to look at the cars he test drove yesterday..every time we look for a different vehicle, they look waaay too nice for us...so clean & shiny. (that never lasts long...) he'll talk to bank again Monday & we might have either a 2000 or 2005 Pontiac Bonneville....saw friends at Wal-Mart, he had totalled their good vehicle hitting a deer recently, too.
we enjoyed the buffet at Toot-Toots & watched the gently falling snow. We saw Great Aunt Dona there, I haven't seen her in years. She asked what had happened to my hair. I had to think about it. She hadn't seen my "blond do". It makes me feel younger, anyway. A pair of big black sunglasses would work wonders, too! The Xmas tree looks pretty good, I think. need to put the snowflakes in front window & the deer on the front porch. and drag the big trunk of Xmas stuff back to the garage. we started out with an old artificial tree in a trash bag & a handful of our childhood ornaments. We now have 2 huge storage trunks full of Xmas.
Kate & I are going to Mom & Dad's tonite to see Lisa & family.
Brown Family Christmas is at Trenton tomorrow.
Koren is making a David's Bridal appt. & invited us to come along. Will I cry as she tries on dresses? better just take the box of Puffs Plus Lotion. I cry at many things anymore. I like to think I've become more sensitive over the years, not just a big cry baby....

thank god it's friday...

while I was merrily power washing at work, Kevin went to Bethany car shopping, he found 2 he likes. we may go look at them tomorrow. Kate & Ms. Cuddles helped me put up the tree---I was forbidden to put it up until after Thanksgiving. We may decorate it more tomorrow, but we mutually wandered away from the tree. Josh & Corey were here to help KJ watch wrestling. Koren called, she is going to get a David's Bridal appt. & invited Katie & I to go along. Retail especially sucks around the holidays. She's a brave little soldier.
While looking for pizza mix to make supper for KJ & Co I found a baggie of leftover Easter candy (this years?) The house cleaning never ends...

thanksgiving week

hit a buck on the way to work, insurance totalled out the Monte Carlo. Kevin has been really draggin' ass this week. (even with the extra day off for the holiday.) think deer season is finally catching up with him.
I actually got a holiday off on the actual holiday!
so, I'm thinking it's a good thing I have the majority of the Xmas shopping done, we're buying back the Monte, it will need a headlight, the passanger door won't open...may try to do emergency repairs & drive it till it dies or something better comes along. kevin has started looking, but we're not interested in another vehicle payment. see, I have this fantasty that I can someday quit my job. not having a vehicle payment would make that look much more feasible...
we did a lot of house cleaning & hosted a family dinner. have 2 to attend this weekend.

katie has 3 recorder belts!

she took 2 music tests today & rec'd orange & yellow "belts", so she now has 3 pieces of yarn hanging from the recorder...she is still the leader...no one else has 3. (she's competitive enough, then I have to point out how she is the leader...hmmm. where do they get it from?)
trying to figure out when to have the girl scout xmas party...with katie's dance practices & recitals, varsity basketball starting, the school xmas concert, & I'm just going to have to close my eyes & pick a day & hope everyone can make it. my weekends are booked until the weekend before xmas, which is too close, since someone is bound to have a family something or other by that time. will probably shoot for a friday nite 5-7 or so, so I can do it after work. I need to get invitations made up & pick the !@#$%^& date so we can get the show on the road.

katie is bored

she has many projects in the works. now she needs magazines to cut eyes, etc. out of. guess who cleaned house just days ago & tossed major amounts of old magazines?
she always has these creative ideas close to bedtime. (my best creative time is in the morning when I'm supposed to be getting ready for work.)
she has also been valiantly studying for tests at school. kj asked her why such a smart kid needed to study so much. that upset her. kj always knows just what to say in any given situation to royally piss a person off. it's a gift. (it's probably also why he has no girlfriend that we know of. brutal honesty is not the way to lure the opposite sex in.)
my kids are mysteries to me. how can you be pregnant for so long, then nurse, change, nuture, lose countless hours of sleep over these kids & then not really know what makes them tick? of course, some days I don't know what makes me tick, either...
life is a roller coaster ride, just like grandma tells steve martin's character in "Parenthood."

got called out to the barn last nite to fix a nursery heater, didn't have the right part, thought I could work around it, so dicked around about an hour with that, then admitted defeat, called JCI to call maintainance, he came, brought the part, & fixed the heater. just 2 more hours gone out of my life. (actually 2 1/2, counting driving time.)
today after work I knew we had to go to Wal-Mart. So, Kate & I drove KJ's car & gassed it up ($1.69 in Princeton!), we had a list & got everything but Katie's snow boots, but on the way home I thought of several things not on my list, so have a new list up on the fridge already.
kevin put the new woodland camo sheets on the bed. can't wait to go to bed!

friday nite

on the way home from another joyful day of work, I put up posters for Katie's dance recital at Grammy's Grocery & Mercer Pizza Plus, (her teacher asked if I could hang up a couple). Josh was visiting KJ, they left to pick up Corey. I ordered pizza for supper. some more friends came to take them to band practice. Josh & Corey are in the band. So, long story short, KJ has actually left the house to do a teenage activity on a weekend night!

I volunteered to run the music at the dance recital. Kate had dance practice & 4-H.
Koren called, she & Cody selected OCTOBER 24 2009 as their wedding date, they're planning on COLORADO. (I am already crying...)

family chiropractor visit

@ Trenton. found out that our previously married, for sometime divorced chiropractors are going to be in separate buildings soon...which is a bit awkward, since Kate & I go to one & Kevin & KJ to the other...
we then went to Pizza Hut, we got meatlovers & 1/2cheese/1/2 pepperoni, which I am very very weary of, I should've ordered a salad. There was this really loud guy who finally left. I really don't like eating out much anymore. I can be annoyed at home for free.
the Lumina has a pinhole in the heater hose, cheaper than what I had feared.

jeff dunham is coming to des moines!!!!

June 3 2009!!! Wells Fargo Arena!!! we love jeff dunham! we just laughed ourself silly during his xmas special last nite. Katie hopes they have stuffed Peanuts for sale there (the audience had them last nite).
I hung out with my friend Ruth at Family Reading Night at school...Frilly & Miller provided the program. They are kind of an older kid Wiggles type band. Ruth & I are huge fans! (tonite we completed our Frilly & Miller cd collection with cd#3!) our kids have outgrown them, but we still think Miller is hot.

kevin took the day off to deerhunt & he was up & at em early. I chose to sleep in for awhile, then got up, did some emergency house cleaning, worked on Kelsie's scrapbook, then we did the Girl Scout meeting here from 10-12. Straight from there to dance class @ Princeton, I drove "kj's car", it started steaming when I was about a block from dance studio. Looked like a hose blew, so I sent the girls inside & called Kevin, who had just headed back out to hunt. He came & looked things over, called the tow truck, & gave us a ride home. Kate, KJ, & I played 2 games of Clue, he won both. Then I took a nap on the couch & they woke me up to go to the Robinson's Soup Supper (their house burnt last weekend & they lost everything). Katie approved the scrapbook & wrote an inscription in it, so she took it to Kelsie. She seemed to like it. We'd found pictures preschool-present day, I couldn't find the one of Kelsie, Carrie, Danielle, & Katie all glammed up riding horses at the neigbor's house. I make scrapbooks, then stash them away. Then when I want to find something...who knows where I stuck it.
KJ ran a lap at the park & decided he should do some indoor exercise instead. It snowed off & on today, no accumulation. The air sure is cold. Feels like winter.

the breed & gestation barns are empty at work, & we've been seeing rats. I saw one run right across my foot today. Luckily the power washer drowned out my screams.
Kate had dance class, she multi tasked & sold her dance teacher GS cookies before class, then after dance class, showed her the dance she is working on, Stephanie had an idea for a move, she taught it to Katie & now it is part of her dance. I love to watch her dance. Stephanie has definitely nutured the dramatic side of our little girl.
We got Breadeaux Pizza takeout, did a Dollar General run, then came home. She showered, made a video on the computer, & worked on her songs. I swept & mopped & folded & put away & unloaded & loaded & 'did the bills.'
We changed the scrapbook frame in the hallway to a pic of her & Jessie shopping on her birthday. She requested that I take down the huge framed group model shot from her birthday several years ago, so I did.

is it only Wednesday?

I hate the dreary gloomy damp weather. I hate daylight savings time.
Last week sometime (I think) Kevin made another dog pen because the dogs were fighting. The Great White Bitch (that's not what Katie named her, but if the shoe fits...) will not stay in. She has climbed, leaped, tunneled, shoved, etc. to get out. Today Kevin just put her back in the now much smaller pen with the dog she was bullying around.
His garage remodel was more successful. He boarded up the cracks under the overhead door where the cement is broken & replaced the broken back door window. the house is now much warmer.
Kate is visiting at Danielle's. She hasn't hung out with Danielle for awhile, but her & Moriah have kind of had a not-so-nice-parting of the ways that I am quite frankly surprised I haven't rec'd a phone call about from her parents...she had sent Kate an email that Kevin deemed unappropriate & deleted. He told me he deleted it. I told Kate that her dad had deleted an email from Moriah, if Moriah said something about the email, just say that "my dad didn't think I should read it." somehow she translated this into a lengthy email to Moriah that her dad had blocked her on YouTube, wouldn't let Kate recieve her calls, or sit by her in the Commons, or etc. And that her dad said they can no longer be friends. ???
I'm about in the mood to put up the Xmas tree. A couple in town have about all their outside decorations up & it looks very pretty. I'll hold off until after Saturday's Girl Scout meeting here. Sat. will be busy, GS in the am, extra dance practice in the afternoon, then a fundraiser soup supper for Katie's friend Kelsie's family, who lost their house & everything in it in a fire last Sat. nite. Katie & I have been going thru photo albums copying pictures we have of Kelsie growing up to make her a scrapbook. She had the idea to copy the group class pictures, too, which I hadn't thought of.
biscuits, gravy, & maple flavored sausage for supper.

I hate my job

this is old news of course. The weekends I work I am on call, so the phone rings at midnite. Cold farrowing room. deb has to get dressed, drive to the wade gate, unlock the gate, relock the gate, drive to wade 3, crawl thru the boot shed, changing into the cheap crocs they provide, then doing the door combination into the office in the dark, showering in, finding tools, walking to the room, shaking my head, dropping things, going after things I forgot, cussing some, & finally the heater kicks on. I call into JCI & go home. Crawl back into bed at exactly 1:27a.m.
phone rings again at 2:30a.m. Honestly. another cold farrowing room. by now, I am not a happy camper. I tell the nice lady that the sows in that room have no pigs, they will be ok. She asks what she should do. I tell her if it gets any colder, call me again. good thing she didn't. I may've just told her to go to hell & quit going to work. Then I get to get up & go to work at normal time, & work all day. Our half days have been cancelled while we're depopping. You don't get paid extra for getting called out. The whole deal really just bites big ones.
and we still don't get a turkey or a ham or raises.
the Kenexa survey results portrayed some bitter little people who don't trust their supervisors or feel like the company gives a crap about them. And we did the survey before they took every thing away. I'm sure we're all much happier now.
losing sleep seems to make me a bit grouchy...

I am very proud of Katie today, her friend Kelsie's house burnt last nite, they were gone at the time, so no one was hurt. Katie came home from Garrett's birthday party & (on her own) started gathering up things for Kelsie, stuffed animals (Kelsie loves them!), some shirts, a few Bratz dolls, & some Grand Champion horses. We took them to her grandparents where she is staying with her family, their friend Lindsay showed up soon after bearing bags of clothes & stuff.
Kelsie's dad is a carpenter, he had done lots of cool remodeling stuff to their house, & her mom kept it very clean & organized. She had just cleaned the girls room when I talked to her yesterday afternoon at the photo shoot. Tomorrow they start with insurance adjusters, bankers, etc.
I have always had a fear of fire, especially a fire in the nite.
The Girl Scouts will have to do something nice for Kelsie.
If her girl scout shirt & badges didn't make it thru the fire (they can't go in the house yet), will get her new ones.
I plan on going thru old photo albums & copying all the pics of Kelsie we have growing up & make a scrapbook for her. I may get it done before they graduate...

I had to work. KJ had the HDC Academic Meet, he answered 2 questions & they won 2nd place in conference!!!
Kevin took Katie to school for her old fashioned picture appt. I went straight after work. He stuck around to make sure I didn't spend too much $. Katie photographs very well, & I love to buy pics of her. Then I took her to spend the night @ Kayla's. They will take her to Garrett's birthday party at Corydon bowling alley tomorrow afternoon. (I have to work.) I usually take 1 or 2 extra kids to his party, so I'm calling in favors!
while driving home from work in the Monte, the <em>volts light came on & stayed on. So went home to get the Lumina to drive to Kayla's, almost to Princeton the low em>>coolant light came on.
It occurred to me last nite, while I was putting my free will contribution in the jar my mom was manning at the Cow Palace fundraiser. Why am I such a volunteer? Mom was always volunteering to play the piano at church, she would always send treats to school parties, she helped me put together a low budget wedding, she is the neighborhood American Cancer Society chair, she is on the Princeton Chamber of Commerce...hmmm. Why am I such a volunteer?
Too bad I didn't pick up on her cooking skills...

I forgot the coolest thing that happened today!

Katie went in before school for small groups recorder session, where she lets them come in 3-4 at a time & play for her. Katie is the FIRST white belt! She now has a white yarn string hanging from her recorder & a new song to learn.
(like Karate belts). Katie thought this was really cool. So did I. Our music teacher Mrs. Shriver is amazing. She comes up with all kinds of neat ideas for her classes, no small feat since she is in charge of everything musical at our school---instrumental & vocal---for all students. She is also a Drama Sponsor, so puts on the school play, too!

Kj had an Academic Meet at Newtown, Kate,Kevin, & I went to Bethany to Wal-Mart & Toot-Toots.

Election Day

the kids reminded Kevin & I to vote. (they really wanted us to vote for Obama.) Kevin voted this morning, I did on the way home from work.
They did a mock election at school, McCain won. By a landslide.
Katie really wants to watch all the coverage. Kevin wants to watch the wrestling he tivo'd last nite. guess who won?

I was rather smug about how well the whole birthday weekend went off (except for my sleepover headache, but that is to be expected.) I got home from work today & summoned the family to the living room to watch Katie open her presents she didn't have time to open yesterday...a big Bobby Jack stuffed monkey, a Bobby Jack MP3 player pillow, & a 'real' peace pendant (as in cost enough to get the lecture of 'you will take care of this.') Then it hit me, I'd forgotten the time honored birthday treats! We went to Grammy's Grocery, debated on making cookies, she wanted the kind you bake with the shapes in them, they didn't have any, so bought 2 bags of snack size candybars instead.
She received another invitation to attend a Youth Scholar Thing in Illinois next summer...this is the 2nd year she has been nominated by her teacher. Quite an honor. Quite a price tag, too, $1,990. I read her the inteniary...breakfast from 7:15-8 a.m. In the summer. For a girl who refuses to ever eat breakfast. she decided if she had $1,990, she'd like to go to L.A. next summer. They have a dress code, too. I can't picture my little gothic skull loving daughter in khakis & a white shirt. 6 days in a row.
Last summer KJ rec'd an invitation to a high school medical seminar deal, I think in Texas. (maybe NYC, he's rec'd several different ones.) $3,500. He kind of wanted to go. It made me feel bad. Of course, his big sister wanted braces, her teeth weren't strong enough. She settled for some dental work before SR pictures, we priced it. $2500. for 8 teeth. no payments. The dentist had a credit card company he financed thru. They denied us (we were in debt reconsilidation at the time). Koren just did her famous Mona Lisa smile. Kate & I are avid America's Next Top Model watchers...on one of the cycles, they did a lot of work on Joanie's teeth. If we could only get Koren onto America's Next Top Model...

we will survive

got all the sleepover girls dropped off about on time, then headed out to St Joe for Katie & Jessie to shop at the mall. East Hills is neat, a lot of the shops are still not up & going, but Kate did get to eat at Original Pizza, which she likes. Then we hit Old Navy & Stone Cold Creamery, we got Jessie home 2 minutes before her 8p.m. bedtime. Kayla had a nasty cough when we took her home, Katie's throat is now starting to hurt. We never had time for her to open her family gifts, maybe we can do that tomorrow in the few minutes after I get home from work & before Kevin leaves...hopefully all the girls at the sleepover don't end up sick...
Katie looked so grown up shopping at the mall, comparing clearance sales on accessories, debating on whether or not to get her ears pierced for free at Claire's Icing (she didn't.) My babies are all growing up.

the big party

I started off the day sleeping in, then ran to Princeton in deep dense fog to cash some checks I had for the shopping trip tomorrow that Katie wanted for her birthday present. We did some final house cleaning & decorating, then Katie, Jessie, & I went to school to "work" in the 4-H booth selling Rada knives while the leader took a lunch break. I sold a few knives & mainly talked to people. Kate & Jessie found 2cool booths, a jewelry one, & a candle one. They used the little $ I took in, then got permission to go out & look in the truck for more. (I also had to buy 2 of the candles before we left...a hot chocolate & a Vermont candle. The lady who makes them calls her business "Sunflower Hollow" & makes soy candles right here in the Mercer area.)
Katie has her guests Moriah, Kelsie, Kayla, Kristina, Mackenzie, Jessie, & Breanna dancing in the garage. I respectfully requested that at some point they all gather outside behind the caution tape I hung up between the tree and the porch for a group picture.
Koren sent Katie a musical card with $10 that she added to tomorrow's shopping fund. We're going to the mall...I'm not sure if we'll do St Joe or Des Moines...Des Moines is a little closer, but not much. We'll spend more time driving than anything, but that is the curse of living in The Middle Of Nowhere. (I depend on the internet & mail order catalogs!)

happy halloween

I took the day off to work all day at the Elementary Fall Festival. It seemed to go well, lots of help, especially with the clean up. Katie & some of the kids her age & older grew bored quickly with the game selection, will have to come up with something new & more challenging for next year. They did the parade in the new gym & the party in the old gym, which worked REALLY well. KJ was in the parade with his 2nd grade pen pal Sydney.
His friends even drug him uptown to trick or treat. Kate had plans to trick or treat with 2 friends, but they ran into another friend, a member of our group that I am related to (not naming any names here, mind you) just wasn't in the mood for any more companions. She finally just stayed in the truck while the other 3 piled out to hit houses with porch lights on. Towards the end she got happy again. Jessie is spending the weekend.
We got the pumpkins carved for Katie's birthday party. She wanted to carve a gourd, too, which was harder than one might think. Have some last minute things to do tomorrow--emergency cleaning, hang the caution tape in dining room, bake the giant birthday cookie, plus run to the bank to cash checks & do a stint at the Craft Show 4-H booth. Kate has planned this party pretty much alone, she has planned activities, made schedules & to-do lists, planned the menu...I am just the chaperon. Hopefully things will go better, I tend to run the guests butts off with my many activities, the parties I plan are ideal for really hyper active kids drinking lots of pop. Maybe a slower pace is just what we need.
have all the girl scout cookie sheets handed out but one.
today the bug guy came & sprayed outside for box elder bugs, spiders, etc. There were about a billion and one dead Japanese beetles on the back porch when I went out to do chores. I think we got our moneys worth!
It was 74 degrees when we started trick or treating. you just couldn't ask for better weather. Katie never even put her jacket on.

katie was watching Serial Mom when I got home...then we picked up Mackenzie for dance class, I did a Dollar General run, we took Mackenzie home, then katie looked online for pumpkin stencils, we gathered up kate's costume for tomorrow, tried on my planned outfit, made sugar cookies for the fall festival tomorrow, & loaded the truck with everything I think I'll need tomorrow @ school. we had some issues with katie's black nail polish. it was perfect, then she took a shower & it came off. (it came with the costume.)
katie's X-mas dance recital that was scheduled for 7p.m. on the weekend I worked has been moved to 11 a.m. on the weekend I work, with a nighttime performance that nite in Bethany. They have a daytime practice the next weekend...do I try to switch around or just be a grownup & hope Kevin will take her & video tape for me? I am quite sure everyone at work is getting rather tired of trading weekend days with me because I think I need to watch whatever my children are doing....
I called mom, she is opening a store by the 17th street railroad bridge (I think).

we started the day off early, I got Katie up & did her hair for Red Ribbon Week Crazy Hair Day, we gave her 3 boops, 3 different colors of hair spray, & an ultra girly hair thing, blonde ringlets with sparkles & butterflies, after work I had to pick her up at Grandpa Lije's because her dad had to go help work cows & couldn't wait an hour for me to get home. we came home & redecorated the garage scarier for Katie's party & we sorted thru dress up boxes & got rid of stuff that is too small. We looked thru the new Xmas cookbook at all the scrumptious looking stuff we both know I'll never ever make. (in between answering the door, had 7 out of 12 Girl Scouts pick up their cookie order sheets & their moms sign their permission slips.)

what if...

we all were so tired of the election & the ads & the messages on our answering machines & the crap in our mailbox that we voted for Independent candidates? Wouldn't it be a kick in the pants to the party system & all the $ they're throwing away on this election that could seriously be put to better use elsewhere if neither of them won? It might even shut up the dreary election night commentators for a second or 2. I didn't even know who the 3 Independents (I probably don't have the right word here, but I think I threw the Scholastic News away & my memory is very untrustworthy) were until I was looking thru papers Katie brought home & saw it in her Scholastic News...Ralph Nader, another guy, & an African American woman.
So, there are 2 African Americans running for president this year, but you probably only know that if you have a 4th grader who brings home their Scholastic News.

the recorder

Katie got her recorder today, she is driving herself crazy trying to be the best recorder player ever. Kj gave her advice. I can tell she's playing Hot Cross Buns. Life is good.

left work early to pick up Katie & catch KJ's academic meets, they had 1st & 3rd, so we were in the science room where they hold meets for 2 1/2 hours. It's kind of like being in the audience at "Jeopardy", except I know at least half the contestants. KJ is a starter, he did try to buzz in but the team captain kept beating him to it. So he answered no questions, altho I could tell from his body posture that he knew the answers to a few of them. And I am pleased as punch. Katie was less than thrilled to be my companion. Especially towards the end. All the other meets are away, so this was my big chance to see the live show.

slept in (again), then went to Trenton, shopping at Save-A-Lot, Hy-Vee, & Pamida.
picked up cookie stuff @ Princeton tonite, need to get it all sorted out for everyone to pick up.

The Haunted Barn

was fun...I spent the whole time running our groups game. Katie took Moriah, they worked in the haunted house, played games, had a picture taken (had to donate 2 canned goods per person in photo for food pantry), & went on the hayride. Moriah came home to spend the nite. Boy, am I tired. I slept in till 7:30, fell back asleep till the phone rang about 9...

my kids are so smart!

I love to go to P-T conference & hear them showered in praise. Maybe I have done something with my life...

kate was back to school today, then helped her dad move big hay bales & tackled the backlog of makeup work from her flu day.
KJ has academic practice before school @ 7:30a.m., yesterday he had a history trip to Truman Library in Independence, tomorrow he has an academic meet in Pattonsburg.
Thursday he is job shadowing on the Mercer County Ambulance.
Thursday is also P-T conference & dance class.
Sat. is the Mercer County 4-H haunted barn.
Sunday is GS leader cookie training. (wooo hooo!)
last nite was part one of Miss Cuddles birthday party...she only gets canned food on her birthday (we adopted her in October when KJ was playing junior high BB--) & Xmas. tonite she gets milk (again, special occasion) & her pic in her Hello Kitty Party hat with Katie. I'm sure the cat is glad she was adopted by a family of weirdos. we were out of milk last nite.

Katie has the flu

she missed school today, when I got home, I emailed her teacher that she was sick, so she sent her step daughter over with homework. (Katie's teacher lives next door).
She's gotten some of it done, now she's taking a popcorn & tv break. she feels better, but still running a fever.
(I'm hoping that all the girl scouts here friday nite for the halloween party are not also sick...a girl in her class was out sick friday with the flu.)

He Who Can Fix Anything

has the earring good as new...now if only he'd find time to put the ceiling fan in Kate's room...
it is a beautiful fall day, blue sky, warm, colorful leaves...I had to go to work for a couple of hours to load cull sows, Katie went with Mackenzie & her mom to a pumpkin patch, Kevin went to work, & KJ is at the park playing football with friends.
Kate got her diorama done, I am quite proud of it. She is second guessing like no one's business. It is imaginative & you can tell she did it herself. That was the exact stipulations of the assignment.
found out today that PSF has cancelled the Thanksgiving Turkeys & Xmas Hams due to "current economic conditions". So, the employees who already know they aren't getting raises next year now have to buy their own turkeys and hams. I'm starting to wonder about the security of the job I love to hate. They have NEVER NEVER NEVER took away our turkeys before! I am a huge fan of turkey. Ham, I can take it or leave it, but now I will be shopping for my Thanksgiving turkey. Because what is Thanksgiving with out turkey? (honestly, what is Christmas with out turkey?)

Katie has the most awesome halloween outfit...the most awesome accessories...& she looked so fierce & was having so much fun last nite when one of her earrings came apart...but we swept the deep dark corners of the garage & found the missing jewel, so we're hoping that her dad "He Who Can Fix Anything" can make it all awesome again...
we were supposed to go on a college visit at TRUMAN today, but last nite KJ decided he didn't want to get up that early, which was a relief since my throat was hurting ( I thought from yelling at over excited having a lot of loud fun girl scouts), but now looks like my sinus thing is coming back since my head hurts, too, & I not only slept in, but also took a nap!
Kate & I did a brief roadtrip to Princeton & took some pics in Princeton & Mercer with Flat Alice from United Kingdom, then Mackenzie came over, I made lunch, KJ had friends over to watch a football game, then they went to the park to play football.

the garage...

I think it is as done as it can get until right before the party! I am rather proud of what Katie & I have done. (we rock!)
tomorrow is dance class, 4-H, & emergency house cleaning for the party since all guests enter thru the house to get to garage.

woo hoo!

today we were told (at work) that the Wade units would start de-population next week. today I quit breeding, now my job is to feed my barns twice a day, sweep, make sure my sows are ok, then wash pig poop filled pits with pig poop water. I have a bright yellow bib rainsuit, blue safety glasses, & ear muffs, I am styling.
kevin, kate, & I went to Cross Roads for supper, their Halloween decor is very very cool! KJ opted to stay home. then we went to Hy-Vee & Pamida & got gas at Snappy's in Princeton. $2.66 (I think).
then Katie & I tackled the garage again, almost got the cemetery backdrop up, will have to buy more thumbtacks. Still have the lights, big bat, & big spider to put up, then need to pick up the house.

& it's a whole brand new week! cool, rainy day. KJ had his first Academic Meet of the season at Ridgeway, he was a STARTER! And he correctly answered ONE question. Kate & I went to the GS Leaders meeting at Princeton, where I learned that the packet of registration forms/checks I'd mailed to KC are lost somewhere...so have to get copies of everything to the SU manager...

The School Variety Show

I left work early to catch the show...it started out with the band playing "We've Got the Beat". MJK (Moriah, Jessie, & Katie) did their dance, they were awesome!!!
Kevin picked up the GS mom shirts for me & liscenced the Monte Carlo.
There are a lot of talented kids in our small town!!!

korens' birthday

yesterday my baby girl turned 23. usually I have an epic poem written, & put it on a scrapbook page with pictures of her growing up. I started writing the poem in my head at work today. I would've forgotten her birthday pumpkin pie, too, if she hadn't reminded me. Kate had a dentist appt. at Gladstone yesterday, so I took the day off (couldn't talk KJ into cutting out of school early to go with us), & we took Koren & Cody to Texas Road House for supper, where she had to sit on a saddle on a sawhorse while she was serenaded by staff & customers for her birthday. Yee-haw! then to Independence Center where Koren picked out a couple of birthday gifts.
so, we didn't get home till 10:30p.m. on a school nite, Kate brought home the work she would miss leaving early, she did her reading on the way there, did her Missouri History at Koren's house, & the rest she is frantically doing today, but she has to quit in 5 minutes to go to dance class at Princeton. tomorrow is the school variety show, I'm leaving work early to go. Kate, Moriah, & Jessie will do the dance they did at Mercer Homecoming. Some of the Girl Scouts said they would do the Girl Scout dance, we'll see.
My 'mom' band booster shirt is done, KJ forgot to bring it home from school.
I have to pick up (or sweet talk Kevin into picking up) the Girl Scout Mom shirts we ordered from Princeton.

Disaster Movie

it was fabulous. honestly. We went to Hy-Vee to get the stuff to make Koren's homemade birthday pumpkin pie (Libby's Pumpkin Pie Mix, evaporated milk, & Pillsbury deep dish pie crusts.) Kevin always gives me shit, why don't I just buy a bakery pie & be done with it? Because I have to make it with love. And Koren loves Libby's Pumpkin Pie Mix & Pillsbury deep dish crusts.
then we went to McDonalds drive thru on way home.

rainy nite

Katie took Benadryl & went to bed early, I'm listening to the lulling sounds of the rain. I love rain as long as I'm inside. I hate rain when I have to drive in it. I have an unnatural fear of hydroplaning. (yeah, I've done it a time or two.)
I was going to try to get KJ to leave school early Weds. to go to KC with us to say HI to Koren on her birthday (& Katie has a dentist appt. in Gladstone.) But he has a physiology & anatamy test AND HDC band auditions. Our new guy starts tomorrow, & we have a part timer borrowed Wed-Friday, but that may not get me a day off. I am leaving early Friday no matter what to watch my babies & the Girl Scouts in the School Variety Show. A mom has to set her priorities...

wild west photo shoot

this morning jessie & katie dressed up in long white dresses & found guns for a photo shoot in the pasture. katie was CALAMITY JANE, which warmed my heart. (I am a true Calamity Jane fan.) jessie was a bride done wrong who had killed her husband & Calamity was helping her hide from the law. jessie thought her name might be ELIZABETH, katie thought she should be ANNIE OAKLEY. got some really good pictures of them, then spent some time picking sticktights & cuckleburrs out of clothes.

goin' on a hayride

I started my weekend off sleeping in....then did some house cleaning, woke Kevin up, & we journeyed to Bethany together in the Avalanche for lunch at Toot-Toots & a Wal-Mart shopping trip. Came home & put stuff away, then picked up Katie's friend Jessica to spend the nite. We went to the Christian Church hayride/weenie roast. I love hayrides. I love it even more when I can take pics of my kids & their friends having fun on hayrides. The girls were a bit miffed by the "have to be 10 to roast your own weenies rule." Especially Katie, who is "practically 10." She decided she wasn't really hungry, anyway, Jessica let me roast her weenie.
Katie & Moriah did a "ghost photo shoot" out in the yard after dark last nite. The original pictures were good, then Katie did some editing on them, adding blood red lips, different skin tints, etc, & now they are amazing! going to try to do my first flipbook on Snapfish. I have ordered pics from them & am very pleased with what I receive.

my kids have lots of them. Moriah came over to practice their dance for the Variety Show next week. Jessie has missed both of their practices, so Katie invited her to spend the nite tomorrow...she assured me that she had asked me last nite & I was ok with it. She thought her 'no friends' ended with September. And to be fair, me letting her have Moriah over to practice was 'having a friend over.'
I found out when I overheard her on the phone telling Jessie how much fun they'd have at the church hayride tomorrow nite when she spends the nite.
The peace & quiet was nice while it lasted!
Josh & Corey are here to watch wrestling with KJ.
I'm going to order from Mercer Pizza Plus. My original plan was to go to Wal-Mart tonite. I had forgotten Moriah was coming over. Kevin offered to get up tomorrow & go with me before he goes to work. (He thinks it'll be cheaper that way, I'm guessing...)So, I 'did the bills', filled out Katie's school book order, did some minor cleaning, & will put away laundry while I'm 'making supper.'
I also cleaned thru the desk drawers & found the Gross Food Labels I'd bought awhile back for our Halloween party! I just remembered them when I saw a set of Gross Drink Labels in a catalog.

treading water

I've made it thru Thursday nite...had to go to work early to load feeder pigs, then load cull sows, then load another room of feeder pigs...took Katie to dance class, she had massive math homework, had to go to Dollar General to buy dog food & cat food before I could feed 'the pets'.
Clark went home on America's Next Top Model. There is justice in the universe. I know the reason she annoyed me so much was that she looks like a former co-worker.
Speaking of work, I think I have entered into an "alliance" with Gary. (I need to quit watching "I Love Money" with the kids. I tend to think in terms of reality shows these days.) It's "us" against "the new guys". You can move up rank pretty quickly in the PSF Universe. People tend to think money's overrated & find ways to not need so much so they can get different jobs.
I have to make tea & fold towels & put away towels. Katie is watching "Pushing Daisies" off the list for bedtime. I put off "doing the bills" until tomorrow nite. Still need to get Katie's book order filled out, too....

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

katie selected this dvd to rent on our excursion to Grammy's Grocery. I told her it probably wasn't a family movie. She ended up not watching most of it. I guess I'm getting old, because until I watched Walk Hard The Life & Times of Dewey Cox (or something like that) I had never seen a penis in a movie that wasn't a porn. I mean, you expect some boobs, maybe a few butts, but penis shots...they give me the giggles. Is this the effect they're supposed to have? or have I become some incredible prude? And shouldn't they have some kind of warning about penis cameos? I don't really think 'nudity' covers it. Well, I guess maybe my idea of nudity is different. And how much are these guys getting paid?

something smells really bad, like in the basement coming up thru the duct work. kevin investigated that. the 2 dogs in the same pen are not getting along, we need to get wire & seperate them. kevin thinks they should just learn to get along.
I forgot to buy ice on the way home from work AND just realized that when I mailed in our All State Swaps (for Missouri AND Wyoming!) I was one short on each set, so will have to send in the 2 I made last nite.
Kj took himself to his haircut today after school---another helpful thing our liscenced driver son can do.
It is such a beautiful fall day. Kate is sprawled on our bed watching "A Cinderella Story." We saw it at the movies when it was new, taped it on VHS off the satellite, but couldn't find the tape the other day when she was looking for it, so I found her a dvd at the used book store at Southridge Mall on our date day. She watched it Sunday, Monday, & again today. Best $5.95 I ever spent!
She recently got "Another Cinderella Story" or whatever the Selena Gomez version is called. She really likes it, too. Every kid should believe in the possibility of a happily ever after. I know I still do!

katie helped decorate the 4-H window

downtown this evening. her first 4-H community service.
kevin & I went back to work today, I had originally took the day off, but since we're working 2 people short, went ahead & worked. I'm still taking off October 8th to take katie to the dentist & pop in on Koren to tell her happy birthday.

Silver Anniversary

we spent the day together in Des Moines...we saw My Best Friend's Girl, ate at Johnny's Italian Steakhouse, walked thru the mall & hit the used bookstore, then shopped at Wal-Mart, & did a romantic moonlit drive thru Stephen's Forest.

kevin took the day off for us to spend together, I got up early to go to the post office & mail Girl Scout stuff (mascot & SWAPS), about the time kevin got up, kate had made plans to go hang with friends @ lineville park, then we came home & I took a long nap, then got up & made supper, played barbies, showered, & swept floors.
today was a big day...KJ drove himself to the Barnwarming Dance. this is the first dance he didn't need a ride to/from. our baby boy is growing up (& up & up...)
tomorrow we will go somewhere & do something to celebrate our 25 years of togetherness. kevin was on-line planning a day in Des Moines the other day. I'll just be surprised.

deb took a nap

I came home from work exhausted, I was just going to lie on my oh-so-comfy bed & watch The Love Guru. (I really wanted a nap, but this way it looks like I just accidently fell asleep...)but I couldn't get the dvd player to work, we have a dvd player, vcr, & 2 of Katie's games plugged in, it is beyond my capability to get anything to work. Katie gave it a go, & she got everything but the dvd player to work. So, I decided instead to start reading House of Abraham Lincoln and the Todds A Family Divided By War, & as much as I love Lincoln books, I didn't get very far. Katie woke me up, she'd been bitten by a strange dog she was trying to run out of our yard...I thought I was dreaming. She said the neighbors were helping her (her 4th grade teacher is our neighbor...)
She says her arm is ok, the dog didn't really bite her that bad. what kind of a mom takes a nap while her daughter is defending the yard & facing wild animal attack? She also made invitations for her Halloween birthday party sleepover on a weekend I have to work...
so, about 8:30 p.m. I started a thrown together supper for Kj, Katie, & Corey (our practically adopted son), wrestling is over, Larry the Cable Guy is on, & there is discussion about watching Sweeney Todd.

work, dance practice, 1st 4-H meeting, that we were late to because of dance practice, & we will continue to be late to because of dance practice...
Katie is the Vice-President of Mercer's newest 4-H club, the Northern Lights.
the girls may be dancing at Bethany's Xmas in the Park. more on that later.

college day

Kj went to College Day at Trenton today. College day. It seems like just the other day that Koren was going to college days...time keeps marching on...

recent accomplishments

*going to my first melodrama
*getting the garage virtually clean enough for a Halloween party
*restraining myself from signing up to make 50 more swaps for any state
(have already done Missouri & Wyoming)
*setting up a Girl Scout meeting for next week
*accepting the fact that since this years rules for the upcoming School Variety Show limit the students to appearing in one act, my daughter most likely doesn't want to dance with the Girl Scouts
*somehow fitting into the Levis I found in the bottom of the closet that I couldn't zip last time I tried them on...
*restraining from applying the the City Clerk job which I know would run us short on $

mother/daughter fun

kate & I had so much fun going to the melodrama together last nite, I decided we'd do a roaming photo shoot when I got home from work. The sky was full of huge puffy clouds...we took pics by the new Calamity Jane sign...I am such a huge Calamity Jane fan & I never realized until today how close I grew up to her home place! We also did pictures by Swan Cemetery & the old church ---was it a church in her time? It was close enough for her family to attend. Of course most of the stuff I've read painted her mother as a real "Character", kind of looked down on by the neighbors. Probably not a church goer, or maybe a church goer not welcomed by the other church goers...then we went to Princeton, we cruised by the park to take pics on the Highway 65 Riders motorcyle, but someone was there, so we tried to go to Dollar General thru the square...which was still closed off for Calamity Jane activities...so we had to back track. then we found the park deserted, took some pics, & headed for home.

48th Annual Calamity Jane Day

I left work early, Kevin & I watched KJ march in the band & Katie ride with The Dance Studio girls. I bought the Pioneer Press. It was awesome! KJ opted to ride the bus home instead of staying to watch Katie dance. We met up with Grandma Janet & Aunt Lisa. Then we ate lunch @ Crossroads Bar & Grill. Kate & I went back to town later to catch the melodrama. (ran into Aunt Lisa & Grandma Janet again...). when we got home, no KJ. He didn't drive a vehicle. No note. So I'm guessing he's playing football at the park. I'm just not used to him leaving the house...

& I got another sunburn...

Hi, Sarah!

took the day off

for a dentist appt. Then I had a nice visit with Grandma, she was enjoying the Polka Band concert...they're the ones who come up here for Calamity Jane weekend every year. One of the band members is from Chillicothe, Grandma knew his family. his mother had lived at Sunnyview until she passed away, he thanked the crowd for being so nice to his mother. I walked Grandma to the dining room for lunch before I left, as I was walking away I heard one of her tablemates say, "The grandkids sure grow up fast, don't they?" It struck me as funny.
Then I used the $15 gift certificate KJ won for The Farmers Wife Merchantile, shopped at Hy-Vee, & made a horrible mess trying to eat a Cream Cheese muffin while I was driving home. Katie will be happy that 2 of the 3 My Scenes she ordered from Amazon have arrived. I started making SWAPS for the All-State Swap exchange (Girl Scouts), wrapped the X-mas presents that have started arriving, & am now making lunch.
I can have really productive days when I don't waste half of them at work!

kevin mowed his grandma's yard & ours today, then I came home from work, pulled into the driveway behind the truck, he went out to go to work, then came back in & told me I had hit the truck with the car...I hotly denied this. The Monte liscence plate was touching that huge ball he has on the back of the truck to pull the trailer with. In my defense, I drive so slow-mo there wasn't even a bump.
katie had dance class tonite. They started to learn 2 new dances for xmas recital. She is really having fun @ dance class. They will ride in the Calamity Jane Parade Saturday on The Dance Studio Float, then dance after the parade. I have to work, but got permission to leave for the parade, & go back & do risers. (I gave up on the photo contest...I have to spend some actual time @ work...)
kevin told me the mercer city clerk job is opening. that's a dangerous thing to tell someone like me who really really hates her job.

we met Koren & Twila in Chillicothe & took them to supper @ Applebee's, then Kevin jumped Twila's car that was still at the new Walgreens, then they went back to the Best Western & we went to Walmart. Koren will be there tomorrow, then Tuesday-Thursday next week. The new store opens next Friday. Then they will be stocking their new store in Oak Grove.
smells like something died in the garage, so will start cleaning out there tomorrow after work. The Girl Scout Halloween Party will be here before I know it anyway.

the kids school pictures turned out good for school pictures.
Koren called from Chillicothe, she is in the Best Western with her new friend from work, we will take them out for supper at Applebee's tomorrow. She'll be in Chillicothe setting up the new Walgreens this week & next.

Katie was baptized at the Lineville Mercer Christian Church this morning with her mom & best friends Moriah & Mackenzie attending. Then we went to Princeton & did some pictures with the mascot & flat stacie we are hosting from Maryland. Koren arrived about 8:30p.m., she will be in Chillicothe for a few days helping to set up the new Walgreens store. Cody called her at 9:30p.m. to tell her he'd left his car/house keys in her purse & was now stranded in St Joe with the friends they'd spent the weekend with. So, she is headed to St Joe & will stay at the friends again & go to Chillicothe in the a.m. from there. the poor girl is tired.
we'll meet her in Chillicothe Tuesday for supper.

The Grounding

it was bound to happen...too many friends, not enough down time.
There was an incident this evening, I did the "I am so disappointed" speech. I even threw in the infamous "Girl Scouts are our sisters" speech.
One friend went home. The other friend is spending the nite as planned, but starting tomorrow, Katie has no friends over to play, visit, practice, or spend the nite. For no reason. For one month.
This is a punishment for Katie, & kind of a treat for her weary family who would like some peace & quiet. The short order cook/photographer is ready for a vacation.
I almost wonder if this was Katie's way of stopping the madness. She has the same problem I have with telling people "NO."

slept in,then cleaned LR for the GirlScout meeting, also cleaned some in my room. The girls had a blast making pet rocks. Mackenzie is spending the nite, Moriah had to go home but now is back. The air is heavy, the sky is overcast, looks like it could just pour.
Need to put away all our meeting stuff & clean off the kitchen table & take out the xtra leaves. KJ has a friend over discussing football.
heard from a Brownie mom that the PSF Peach units have been told to use their vacation days, they may have to shut them down because their lagoons are full & there is no where to go with the water because of the incredible amt. of rain we've had. They were told the Wades were next. (I work at Wade 3). A few weeks ago they told us to conserve water at all costs, because if the lagoons get too full, they will de-pop the barns. I hate my job, but I like the $...

rainy day

deb is home for the weekend! I laid on my bed & watched the end of Stick It with Katie, then came to the startling realization that I have an Outdoor Adventure Girl Scout meeting scheduled at the park tomorrow, & it is a muddy mess outside with more rain predicted, so started cleaning house in case we need to have it here. Kate invited Moriah over, they are redecorating the 'family room'...which has also been the 'dining room' and 'katie's room'. I keep thinking the next time we buy a tv, we'll give the LR one to one of the kids & move one of their little 13" ones into the 'family room' with a dvd player. we seem to be a very tv orientated family...playing games, watching movies, or obsessively watching House marathons. (hey, not me. House annoys me. I could actually go into a Dr Cox rant from Scrubs, which I do love, but I'd lose my place & embarrass myself.)
anyway, the girls creatively angled the old couch in the corner, & shoved her boxes & boxes of dollies & stuffed animals behind...that is my kind of organization! out of sight, out of mind. but now there is no room for the glider rocker...

Christmas is coming!

Katie's christmas dance recital is scheduled for December 6th!
Kj's academic team practice starts next week.
it's getting dark SO early...
the days are a blur.
& the nites aren't long enough for me to get a good nite's sleep...
but other than that, life is good.

family chiropractic appt.

I know that I feel better, anyway! Then we had the family meal deal at Pizza Hut & experienced the helpful smile in every aisle at Hy-Vee.
I've put away 3 loads of laundry, & groceries, & goofed around on the computer.

it has been a long weekend filled with friends, 1st kj had a nasty cold, now I have the nasty cold, & I think Katie is coming down with one, too...I overheard her telling Moriah today "My mom's not really lazy. She's just lying down all the time because she doesn't feel good." And cold meds make me sleepy.
making supper, then Moriah goes home. (hopefully not to be replaced with another friend...)
I am glad that the kids friends feel comfortable here. But sometimes it would be nice if it was just us Dailey's...

I tackled the dust bunnies

& I think I won! cleaned Kj's room, something I rarely ever do, but it was like a horror movie in there. I also cleaned thru my girl scout stuff, throwing away old stuff I don't need for this years record keeping, & checked my box for next weeks meeting at the park & took down the water logged tent & hung it back over the clothesline to dry (again). it wasn't all fun & games, I also took a lengthy nap.
Kelsie was over for awhile, then she & Mackenzie left & Moriah & Corey came over.
If we ever get the house to ourselves, Kate & I need to watch the rest of the 2 hour season premiere of America's Next Top Model.
now I'm off to finish reading the footnotes in the Custer book.
Moriah has hinted that she would like supper, Katie told her we had an early supper (it was actually a really really late lunch--about 3p.m. when the girls got home from the park.) so they're eating poptarts. I didn't eat lunch & am kind of hungry, too, but I am also tired & lazy, so will just eat a few crackers & read.
maybe we'll make chocolate chip cookies... (Betty Crocker mix).

mackenzie spent the nite with katie last nite, josh & corey came over to play football at the park with kj & watch wrestling.

by finally reading last weeks paper I discovered that the first ever photo contest will be held at calamity jane day. I of course work that weekend, photos must be entered that a.m. between 8-10 a.m. I already have pictures in mind that I would enter. How much would I have to bribe KJ to get them there for me? my mom & my friend martha keep telling me I should open a photography studio, in my little dream world, I would renovate the old Arbucle's store on the mercer square, of course keeping the name Arbucle's since it is a part of mercer history & it doesn't do much good to change old names in small towns...case in point...it may have said Mercer Pizza Plus on the door for many years, but we all still call it Green Cow. I also like the name Arbucle's. But since I have to live in the real world, I will go thru recent pictures & select some & plot on how to get them there. I could always go into work early & then leave for a bit & go back...that is exhausting, but I'm sure people have done more than that to chase a dream...
I'm thinking a pic of kate & friends at the carnival, & one of kj & friends playing football.

in other news, my friend at work is 'seriously contemplating alternate lines of employment.' having someone to make catty remarks to sure makes the day go faster. I guess I'm a big girl & I of course will go down with the ship...

kj has a nasty cold

& got his magazines sold. katie started her new dance class & has mackenzie scheduled to sleep over tonite. I am thankful I have the weekend off. we're all exhausted from homecoming & the weather change. I have found my sweatpant stash, katie has started wearing her new long sleeved shirts.
today was the first "we have a new teenage driver" insurance payment. wow. it was high on a 96 lumina. some 16 year olds drive new cars.
time to go to work & load the cull sows. life just doesn't get any better than this...

koren called, she will be in chillicothe in a couple of weeks to help open the new store, we will meet her for supper. she is getting settled into her new place & has a new best friend @ work.
katie had homework.
kj hustled & sold 3 more magazine subscriptions...they're supposed to sell 10 each. he's got 7! and a friday deadline.

took my half day at work & got my highlights done again---took a quick nap---katie found a video of her as a baby that we watched---kevin made supper while I cleaned the floors---I even got sheets changed yesterday! woo hoo!

Kj & I started our day at 7a.m., being the only 2 volunteer band boosters cleaning up trash on the square. I came home after Katie & Morgan, back to the square for the girl scout sponsored baby show. Kevin came uptown, Kate hung out & played kid games, Kj came up to march in the band, Kate & I ran Morgan home, then to our hosue so Katie could change shirts, then I hiked her & Kelsie down to the Dance Studio float. Katie & I got sunburned at the parade, we waited around uptown for our Pizza Plus order to get done, then came home, ate, & I took a nap. Kate woke me up to go back uptown for the carnival. She did armband nite again, played a few carnie games, ate a carmel apple, Kevin & I split a funnel cake. It was a long day.

Friday Nite On The Town

we were uptown a bit early to get our wristbands & beat the crowd, Katie, Moriah, & Mackenzie hung out waiting for the rides to start, then it was a frantic race between the Swings, the Slide, the Paratrooper, the Rocket, & the Buckets. Katie rode with Mackenzie, Moriah, Kelsie, Kayla, Jessica, Breanna...she ate a hotdog & had a sno cone. She at one point felt really sick & asked to go home, but after about a half hour, she was roaring to go back & had the time of her life. (that's the jist I got thru the camera lens, anyway...)
Her last ride on the Rocket, her flip flops flew off & out the rocket...one of the carney's very nicely found them for her on the ground under the ride. In the dark, no less. Katie declared that the Rocket was more fun in the dark.
I got to hang out with my 'grownup friends'...Kayla's mom & dad, Jessica's mom, Corey's mom...& I love to watch Katie having fun with her friends, & being free to run around with out having to watch out for cars. All the cables on the ground can be a bit dangerous, but she's never tripped over one yet. I, on the other hand...
KJ has again boycotted the carnival. His friend Nick worked as a temp. carney tonite, he is a real nice guy & great with kids, his ride was full all nite long.
Kevin took the weekend off. Tomorrow is Band Booster Trash Pickup on the square at 7, Girl Scouts run the baby show on the square at 9:30, Katie will ride the Dance Studio float in the parade, & KJ will march with the band. Will Katie be up to another nite of rides?
Every year I try a new carney treat...onion blossoms, friend twinkies, fried Snickers, fried Oreos, potato twists, this year it was chicken on a stick. Quite tasty.

Homecoming part 1

it started raining late afternoon, putting a real damper on Katie's planned nite of stardom in the Local Entertainment. We had thunder and lightning. It cleared off & all went well...she danced with her girl scout troop in their brand new t-shirts we had made @ M&M Apparel in Princeton...sang a duet with Moriah... danced with MMJK (Moriah, Mackenzie, Jessica, & Katie)...and danced with her dance class, the 2 Princeton girls didn't show, so the instructor Stephanie & her adorable & very talented 3 year old daughter Maggie who always practices with them took their spots. We bought $20 of raffle tickets, & won a $15 gift certificate, a sling backpack, AND a fire extinguisher. And Cassie that we bought raffle tickets from for Miss Mercer won, too!
KJ's friends drug him uptown for awhile, but we missed him. He walked back home. He was a bit upset that I exhibited bad parenting by letting Katie stay out so late on a school nite. they only have a half day today & it's only Homecoming 3 days a year.
Katie got to hang out with her friend Justin some, too!
Her portable fan club of Grandma Janet, Grandpa Lije, & Jo, + her mom were all there. I taped so much that my batteries gave out halfway thru her last performance. Tonight she'll have an armband, so will take tons of friends pictures for her scrapbook.

another day in the life of the dailey family....kevin moved cows, mowed a yard, & had a dentist appt...kate had school & dance class, then she had to make an emergency trip to lineville to say goodbye to her friend justin who mackenzie thought was leaving today, but won't leave for a few days. they made plans to meet at the carnival in mercer friday nite.
kevin picked up the girl scout shirts today, got 7 of them delivered, kate says she will hand out the other 5 at school tomorrow.
deb had a phone call from a girls mom who was interested in joining our scout troop, found out that a vehicle has been secured for Little Miss & Mister Mercer to ride in for the homecoming parade (our troop is in charge of the baby show), I have one definite & one last resort if no one else will do it, call me judge (my mother!) I have one girl who will help at the baby show if I pick her up & bring her home.
we got all kate's cds & shirts in a bag for tomorrows variety show. hopefully, all will go well. kate has worked really really hard. she is one talented little girl.
fall dance class starts next thursday. life should be calmed down by then.

katie, moriah, mackenzie, & jessica met at the park again after school to work on their dance. katie sets this all up on her own. i just show up after work & watch the results.
she has dance practice at princeton tomorrow for her jazz class, so they'll be ready for the variety show thursday. she'll ride on the dance studio float in parade sat.
I called on the girl scout t-shirts, they'll probably be done tomorrow. (yeah!)
fall dance/jazz starts next week.

dancing fools

kate had arranged for jessica, moriah, & mackenzie to meet her at the park after school to practice their act for the homecoming variety show thursday, this act has evolved from a taylor swift song into a taylor swift song AND a vanessa hudgins dance (we emailed the person in charge of show to see if any spots are left open). if she succeeds, this would put miss dailey in the variety show FOUR times....dancing with her jazz class (as far as we know), with the Brownies, with MMJK, & singing with moriah.
mackenzie's mom was at the park with them when I got home from work. she wants them to practice again tomorrow. I told her that was the absolute last practice, we're taking wednesday off. the carnival runs 3 nites, which means I'll be hanging around the carnival for 3 nites, plus the epic variety show, picking up trash on the square, running the baby show, & the big parade. I'm starting the week off tired.

Katie & Jessica went to church with Moriah, when Jessica's mom came to get her, she wasn't here, so they had to come back after her in the late afternoon, they are contractors & were building a dock at the lake they wanted to finish today. Moriah came home from church with the girls, they again wanted to go swimming in the lake & I again told them no, & Katie didn't talk to me for awhile. They made lemonade & gingerbread.
KJ & Corey played football at the park.
Kevin took the movies back to Randy's, he was supposed to yesterday, he forgot, then I was going to have Koren take them, since she was headed to Randy's when she left here, but I forgot to ask her, then I was going to take them back when I took Moriah home, but she wanted to watch Alice Upside Down, & by the time it was over, Randy's was closed & Moriah was late getting home. On the up side, Lake Placid 2 was good. Katie was worried that it was too scary for me, but I can handle Lake Placid. I'm not that big of a weenie!

slept waaaaaay in, then Koren called, she & Cody were in town for a friends wedding,so they came over to visit. Katie had Jessica scheduled to spend the nite, Mackenzie came over to play, then Christina & Christina came over, they left, the girls were bored, so we went uptown to do a photo shoot, Kate wasn't in the mood. Not at all. (she wanted to go swimming at the lake where Jessica lives. No lifeguard. I tried to explain to her that I don't feel comfortable taking other peoples kids somewhere where I am the one responsible. I'm not a lifeguard.) All area outdoor pools are closed. The Stacy Center indoor pool was closed. When we got uptown, we found Moriah, Hannah, & Abbie. We took some pictures, got some drinks, & headed home. Mackenzie left, Katie, Jessica, & Moriah went to the park to play with Lindsay. KJ was at the park playing football with Corey & Levi. We finally got Moriah out of here a little after 10, she didn't want to leave before ALICE UPSIDE DOWN was over.
in the meantime, I got some scrapbooking done with some of the cool papers I got yesterday. & I went on line to get our free Farm Bureau picture from the fair.
